Grunty DaGnome Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The worst part is that, if last year is any indication, it may take them a month to getting around to formally rejecting the rest of us
bdon19 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I didn't even apply to NYU, but wow that seems like a pretty big chunk that got accepted today, especially since we can't realistically assume every accepted student will be neurotic like us and go straight to the results forum! Good luck to the rest of y'all!
pel Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I don't think a lot of people go straight to the results forum when they receive something... Most UC Berkeley comp lit results were out today and I only saw two of them on the board...
lolopixie Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 It is also possible they may not be done with decisions. It is quite possible there were six people that were decisioned on, and now the committee is narrowing down the rest. Possible. HOLD ON TO HOPE!!!!
ComeBackZinc Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I can only comment on my own program, guys, but with us the decisions were often literally spaced months apart. Individual faculty played a role in selecting candidates, based on their perceived need for new advisees (etc.); some decided quite early in the process, some quite late. We had an admit in ear,y February and an admit in late April, if you can believe it.
MelleMelville Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) Congrats to those who got in! NYU has a great program. I did my undergrad and my MA there and got to know the dept pretty well. If anyone has questions (other than whether or not they were accepted) I might be able to help. Edited January 31, 2012 by MelleMelville takethiswaltz 1
rawera Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 And an email accept online, safe to assume NYU is at DEFCON 1?
lcm Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I'm gonna chalk this one up to a loss. If some miracle happens and I get a call or email in the next few weeks, so be it, but NYU seems to get all acceptances out the same day.
HunkyDory Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 A scene that just happened: Me, sitting at the computer, hearing my phone ringing from across the room. "NYU!" I think. I dart to it by the end of the first ring. The name/number listed: Unknown. Pause, wait till the third ring. "Hello?" *Click* Silence. DAMNIT! JeremiahParadise and Grunty DaGnome 2
Rupert Pupkin Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Man, the post about the first admit getting early notice only because he/she is an international student got my hopes up. With 6 acceptances posted, I now know this pipe dream is done.

With 6 acceptances posted, I now know this pipe dream is done. On the one hand, I feel the same. On the other, I wonder if some of those posts aren't true and are posted by trolls of this thread, just to make us crazy, especially the last one, claiming acceptance via email. ahembree 1

It may be cashed but I'm still willing to try hitting it again...if anything let's just agree that chances for the remaining spots are much much slimmer now. So basically the same position we've been in: despair.

So basically the same position we've been in: despair. On the bright side, it does not appear that wait list notifications have trickled out yet. Hope springs infernal. Also interesting to note that (based on admissions page estimates), Forum users seem to make up around 2/3 of the incoming class.

Yeah, too bad 2/3 of all forum users don't get in to NYU On the bright side, I had TWO new messages waiting for me when I got home. On the dark side, they were both telemarketers/fake "update your insurance" calls.
vordhosbntwin Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 doesn't sound like there was any bright side there; during this perilous time, every email is a dark potentiality. Grunty DaGnome 1
Grunty DaGnome Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 ....every email is a dark potentiality. Indeed.
marlowe Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Looks like there were no wait-lists last year, and all of the rejections/MA offers went out in mid-March. There were wait-lists in 2010, but none of the offers even went out until March.
Grunty DaGnome Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 The open house is on March 3-4. If you're wait-listed, you'll probably know by then and you'll likely get an invitation. [check out results from 2010].

Grunty DaGnome Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 the open house goes into the 5th (observing the class structure and facilities in operation) Oh, sorry! those were dates from a different year.
