I got into Durham as well. I don't have much more of a picture than you do, but my cousin who is doing his PhD there says it is a very nice place to live in, great scenery. (Though I am sure this is not that much help...) On another note, I looked up how long it takes to get to London by bus and it is like 5 or 6 hours and costs 30GBP one way or 45 return. That is one reason I am leaning more toward SOAS.

a wonderful little city in the NE, its more like a retirement village as its very silent and uncrowded, as already said its green everywhere with the river which makes it very nice., you might get bored but you can do all the pub and baring in Newcastle which is around 45min away, it has a live night life with alot of football and concerts!

I haven't actually lived there, however I spent two months in Newcastle and I agree with 30rus, both cities are really close and you can enjoy Newcastle nighlife from time to time! Actually, Durham is pretty well connected with Scotland and London by train (if you got the student card, you can go Durham-London one way for 15 pounds more or less, what is awesome!).

It is a beautiful town, and although it is small you have all the services and things you may need, and it's kind of charming, I really liked it!

I just found out that I got into Durham University for next year! I was wondering what I might be able to expect out of the city and the uni as well. I studied at the University of Stirling last year so I think I have some idea of what smaller cities are like (I could be completely off, but I can only work with what I've got, right?). Any tidbits about Durham as I begin hearing from other schools?

i dont know specificly about your major, but compared to stirling which is a new institute, durham has the history with lots of old fashioned buildings around the town and the cathedral, kindda like harry potter. nice town all-in-all, all that you cant find in Durham, can be found in newcastle, so get around going back and foward in the tyne-and-wear area.
