jma310
Hi hermia (my phone keeps changing that to hernia... Which is what this process causes). I agree, this is a bizarre one! My field is 19c British and American, feminist theory specifically issues of womens body image/self-starvation, with a dash of food studies. transcendental
I think I'm going to need some smelling salts for the next few days. Haven't heard anything either way.
hermia11
Hi hermia (my phone keeps changing that to hernia... Which is what this process causes). I agree, this is a bizarre one! My field is 19c British and American, feminist theory specifically issues of womens body image/self-starvation, with a dash of food studies. Awesome - that's some fascinating and important stuff. I've also been interested in feminist theory (and am kicking myself for not trying for Brandeis), primarily androgyny and the imagination in 20th c. literature. (Full disclosure: I have an unabashed girl crush on Cixous.) Oh, and this twisted waiting game? A hernia indeed.
jma310
I got a rejection from Brandeis yesterday after I got into their MA back in 09 and was told what a good fit it was. Oh the times, they are a changing'. But it's also hard to get in places w an MA
hermia11
Ouch, sorry to hear that. Also sorry to hear that we're in the same MA boat - I got mine in 2010 and was told that it was a horrible decision to get a stand-alone MA. Now they tell me. SeveredLetters
It sounds like they have given out all of their offers...sorry to crush any hopes, but with only four spots I'm not surprised they didn't show up on the results board. Good luck, everyone!
jma310
Haha ugh! I'm in a funded MA/PhD where I've been accepted to continue on but unfortunately I'm not interested and never really intended to do my PhD here. I can take my MA as a standalone though. Good luck, everyone! My hopes were completely crushed when I heard they had 4 spots this year... but send me my rejection letter already! I live so close to BC, I can see those spires looming over the treetops every morning on my walk to the T... I figured I'd be one of the first to hear, if they were notifying via snail mail. Yesterday, omeone on the results board from a discipline other than English wrote that she had gotten an email asking her to check her on her status on the website. The website told her that she had been rejected-- on January 30th. Really? 17 days to notify somebody? I understand that these departments are busy, but with everything automated on the website, I just don't get that.

jma310
So I guess we're just waiting for our rejections from here by now? Seems weird not one acceptance posted.
hawkeye7269
BC automatically funnels non-accepted Ph. D applicants to their MA application process, so if you didn't get one of the Ph. D spots or the waitlist, you haven't heard because they're probably considering you for the MA. I think...
jma310
Great, I need another MA haha. Thanks, hawkeye. Do you know for sure if all accepted have been notified?
transcendental
If BC condescends to offer me an unfunded MA spot with me having an MA in hand, I probably will spontaneously burst into flames. They're probably just waiting to send out all the reject letters in one bunch is my guess.
hawkeye7269
Well I imagine this is probably only true towards those of us applicants who only have a BS or BA right now. MA's probably just get outright rejection.
Isidore
Just got an e-mail that I've been accepted to the MA program with a "scholarship" for the first year (with the "eligibility to compete" for a teaching fellowship in my 2nd year) - I would have been tempted to take them up on it just to be able to stay in Boston, but after visiting Amherst and the surrounding areas, I'm thinking it's just not worth it. Hopefully it will go to someone who has their heart set on BC...
Mr Grimwig
I just got the same email and offer, Isidore. I'll be letting them know soon that I won't be accepting it, even though it's a lovely campus.

hermia11
Dang it. My rejection letter came today. It's very kind, but I'd like very much to write "return to sender" on it and stick it back in my mailbox of doom.

butalas
Will anyone here be going to BC this fall for sure? I accepted one of those "funded" MA spots last week and I'm pretty excited about it, although it seems that others were not so thrilled about the idea. What exactly turned you away from the funded MA? laurathebadseed and butalas 1

dazedandbemused
Sigh. I've decided to go to BC, but I didn't get offered the funding. Hopefully someone will give theirs up and it will trickle down to me.
