I went for an interview for a school psychology ed.s programs. Today I got an email saying that I'm in. Is that weird? Does that mean that not that much people apply there? Or does it mean that before they interviewed me they were pretty ok with me already? It's really hard determining the how good a school psych program is relative to another because there are no rankings or much info about the program online. Anyone know anything about these school psych programs?

1. csulb

2. cal state fresno

3. cal state northridge

4. university of the pacific

5. chapman university

Thanks

It's quick, but some schools interview just to make sure you're not crazy. So probably they were fine with you before the interview. At some places a committee meets to make offers, but maybe at your university it was up to your advisor so the decision was quicker. Regardless I can't see it being a red flag or anything.

Some top schools accept without interviewing because the science of predicting success in graduate school doesn't find much support for the inclusion of an interview (it really is the combo of GPA/GRE, which I know is not a popular idea here). Likely they already knew how many funded spaces they could offer, had approval from upper levels in the university for your admission, and were just doing a sanity check (also, if the grad students absolutely hated you, this would be their opportunity to say "PLEASE reject them" because otherwise they're typically uninvolved in admissions decisions).

I'm also applying to programs in school psychology, and the same thing happened to me for a few schools. One contacted me the next day. They said about 60 people applied. They invited ~30 people to interview, and they told us that they were only going to accept 12 people. Maybe they already have an idea of who's getting in before the interview? I applied to another school and still haven't heard back post-interview, so I'm assuming I was rejected.

Congrats though!

My thoughts as well. Congratulations!
