Hope. Feathers. Insanity. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Listen to the Tremeloes a few more times. Check email obsessively again. ...still not rejected. Certain future of life under a bridge in a box with fleas has been momentarily delayed. shaxmaty1848 1
abc123xtc Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hang in there! March is just around the corner now.
laviola Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I've applied to University of British Columbia and have heard nothing yet. Is it normal for Canadian University to get back on the result only in March/April? Same here, that's my top choice and I'm really anxious about it. I really think we won't hear back til at least mid-late March.
littleprince Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 That mini heart attack you get when you open your mail and see a new email - only to realize it's an ad from somewhere. (I use the email address only for application.) I've applied to 10 schools but no news from any. Keep checking my email and the results survey pages here. Good luck to everyone. To myself as well.
applyingfromtexas Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I still haven't heard anything, but March starts this week! FINALLY! Fingers crossed!
shaxmaty1848 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I still haven't heard anything, but March starts this week! FINALLY! Fingers crossed! That's the kinda attitude I like to see! I'm still going strong on resisting the urge to check the Survey board and my online statuses (2 days!). Haha. All I hope is that I dont end up as one of those people who simple gets no response at all...

Don't they know how sensitive and fragile we are?
shaxmaty1848 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Yeah you can browse almost....any....of the threads on this site and see countless examples and horror stories from people who had to call to get their decision or who simply never got one. I have a friend who was met with silence from two universities. I really really hope that isnt me...my top program is small and a bit obscure so they really have no excuse not to get back to me. It usually happens from schools who get a lot of applications, they dont even bother rejecting you.

As if I needed something else to obsess over...
iandunham Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I wish I could understand what happens inside of a department when it comes to this...some people have been accepted already, others waitlisted, so does that mean that the remainder of applicants can assume a rejection?
jelkost Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I know that it's almost March and I should be feeling more optimistic, but as much as I look forward to receiving any answer at all I can't help but expect a negative outcome. What a rough process.
rmgerdes Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I imagine the first round of letters have come and gone. Expect to hear more the first week of March. I'm trying to fool myself into think it is impossible to hear anything until next week, so that I'll relax a little until then. It isn't working, but it is helping
rowlf Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 I agree that trying to convince yourself that it's not coming this week helps. On Monday two weeks ago, I thought, "This is the week!" Nothing. The following Monday, I thought, "This is it. Rejection or acceptance, either way, I'm bracing myself." Nothing. This week, it's hard to expect anything even if I tried... and it's helping! Still, I'll have to contend with the occasional "School X already sent acceptances but no one has posted it on GC and everyone else is rejection" and "School Y sent acceptances and rejections but didn't consider me important enough to reject" thoughts this week. I imagine the first round of letters have come and gone. Expect to hear more the first week of March. I'm trying to fool myself into think it is impossible to hear anything until next week, so that I'll relax a little until then. It isn't working, but it is helping

UnbearableNausea Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I've heard (almost) nothing good - does that count?
kuniklos Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I applied to 4 schools and was interviewed by one. I got my first rejection today from University of Texas, which isn't making me feel good. I need to keep cool for another week or two.
jormniel Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I applied to three schools, and I have interviewed with two of them. I was rejected by the one that didn't interview me. I haven't heard back from either of the schools that I interviewed with, but I was told by one of the schools that I would hear something at the end of February/beginning of March.
Norman G Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I applied to 11 programs and I haven't heard a thing!!!!
katiecarroll4 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I don't think people should be panicking too much from not hearing anything yet or jump to conclusions that they have been rejected. I've applied to two schools, and haven't heard a peep. But I know my programs don't announce decisions until March - April. I think this is a very standard time for when announcements are made. Let's all try to stay positive! Right now, no news is... no news!

Let's all try to stay positive! Right now, no news is... no news! While I agree with you, I'm still nervous from one school that has been sending out waves of decisions- 1st one a few weeks ago, then the 2nd one a week or so ago. Still, I've heard nothing. I really don't want to have to call to find out bad news. The idea/fact that some schools just don't send everyone out letters/emails/decisions is just so cruel. Can't they be on top of this stuff so we don't have to have implied rejections? (also, what exactly denotes an implied rejection anyway...?) I'm just so grumpy over this whole process right now. I need some good news
rockandroll Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I still haven't heard anything, but I get the impression that for master's programs, I should expect to wait at least a week or two more for the first few letters to start rolling in. (Side note: Why do my schools still rely on postal mail?!) I'm going absolutely nuts and getting more and more pessimistic as the time passes, even though it makes sense that I haven't heard yet. I get anxious every time I come home and have to check the mail, and I get legitimately angry every time I get a letter from Comcast or Aetna or anything other than any of my grad schools. I'm very confident in my application, but I know that there are a ton of other great contenders out there. I figure that as a great applicant, I have to get in somewhere out of seven schools, but it doesn't ease my worries...
rowlf Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Did those waves of decisions include rejections and acceptances, or just acceptances? I am right there with you, buddy. My number one concern has sent out two waves of acceptances and rejections, yet I haven't heard anything. What does that meeeean? The only school that I have really moved on from because of an implied rejection is a small program that did interviews way long ago and is known for letting rejections linger. Other than that, there is enough ambiguity to have hope. It sounds like that is more like your situation. I would be insanely antsy, but still hopeful. The waves included both rejections and acceptances and I think maybe a wait list or 2...I might be confusing those with other schools though-since you know, I am CRAZY! Well, I'm still holding out hope, since this is my first choice as well. Good luck! I really hope we hear some good news this week!
