goldielocks09 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey everyone, I just checked my OSU application online and it says the status is "reviewed." I clicked on the status and the message says "Your application for admission was not approved. You will be informed of the decision by mail." Is this a rejection? I'm pretty sure it is but I'd like to know for sure. This day is not going so well.
vern23 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 hmmm it does kind of sound that way, but i wouldn't believe anything until you hear it from the department. I know alot of the grad schools use those sites but a lot of the departments i've talked with say they don't deal/update the websites at all. So maybe email the secretary of the department and ask very politely if they could clarify the status meaning.
jesso21 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 that does seem like it is a rejection... sorry goldie!
BodyStudiesPhD Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I would say yes it is a rejection because that is the language universities use: "approved" or "not approved" At least you're not waiting on that one any longer!
goldielocks09 Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Okay, thanks. I figured. Has anyone else had a horrible rejection yet? Because this was one of my safety schools. I am starting to think I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I cannot spend another year of my life waiting tables. I cannot do it.
belowthree Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Okay, thanks. I figured. Has anyone else had a horrible rejection yet? Because this was one of my safety schools. I am starting to think I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I cannot spend another year of my life waiting tables. I cannot do it. Calm down, sometimes schools reject students if they think the student is unlikely to actually accept admission there because they're likely to get into somewhere better. So getting rejected from your safety schools either means the application process was wonky (always possible), you misjudged which schools were safe (always possible), or you're too awesome. Tell yourself it's the latter until you have real cause for worry!
miratrix Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 The application process is *very* wonky, it doesn't say anything about your chances elsewhere. I'm sorry it was such a tactless way to learn, though, that's rotten phrasing.
goldielocks09 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Thanks for the encouragement. I really do appreciate it. It's just been a rough day, I suppose. Not that it would have been good news on another day... but still, you know what I mean. Thanks again.
Dubya Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 If it makes you feel any better I'll probably still be waiting tables as a grad student.
Tritonetelephone Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 The language I've heard most often is "not recommended" for admission (as opposed to "approved"). In any language, we can all agree it sucks. I'm sorry, Goldie!
SweeneyAmong Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 My personal favorite is "Deny" next to my status in big black letters. My mental translation of that of course is "FAIL!" Luck to you...
Tonights Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 My mental translation of that of course is "FAIL!" I think I would actually feel better if all my rejections came with "FAIL" cat macros.
unspeakable Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I think I would actually feel better if all my rejections came with "FAIL" cat macros. Ooh, forum game! Post your best rejection LOL!
