This is just an observation I made, but...

This forum is supposed to be about 'random chit-chat'. Yet, we grad students (and prospective grad students) have still managed to fill up about 90% of this forum with grad school-related talk.

So should I be prepared to pretty much be talking about grad school/research for 90% of the remainder of my life?

I just bring this up cause I think it would be healthy for us to talk about something unrelated :)

Well this is The GRADCafe.

Thank you captain obvious.

Typically all online forums have a general theme, but also have a 'lobby' area to discuss any unrelated day-to-day topics. I am pointing out that on this particular forum, the GRADcafe forum, people still manage to mainly talk about grad school in the 'lobby'.

So what does everyone have queued up on their DVR to distract themselves? When I get offline I'll be watching House and Hart of Dixie. :)

Thank you captain obvious.

Just doing our duty, Sergeant Sarcasm! :D

Spinrah- when you get to grad school, you'll likely find that a huge percentage of daily conversation- even the "chit chat" stuff- will likely revolve around grad school in some way. That's how it is in my program, anyway. It's just the nature of the beast.

But by all means, feel free to start non-school-related topics. For myself, I'm planning to watch "The Shape of Things" on Netflix as soon as I finish this paper for econ anthro- whoops, it slipped out!

I've been watching Mad Men. LOVE it. Other than that, tyring to work my way through Game of Thrones, though it's harder than I'd anticipated, given how much everyone seems to love it.

One of my good friends is completely hooked on Mad Men. I've never seen it but have been thinking about giving it a try.

All the guys (including me) in my department love Mad Men--but then again, look at our department.

Haha Yea, I would be very, very surprised if it wasn't interesting to a marketing department..or gender studies.

It really is a fantastic show. I think I was hooked from the first 5 minutes. Plus, RJD2 is an amazing producer, and I love the theme.
