LaLuna Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hi everyone! I am applying for the Fulbright Full grant to Ecuador. I am a senior undergraduate student. What are the graduating seniors applying for the full grant doing until we find out the results?? Anyone applying for jobs? Do you tell the employers about your Fulbright application?

I'm applying for a Fulbright Full grant to Florence, Italy to do chemistry research. I am a senior undergraduate as well and have applied to chemistry PhD programs already, so at this point I'm just waiting until the spring to see what my options are. Good lucky to everyone else applying!!

We find out the first round results at the end of January, and final decisions come out later (March-June). I wouldn't volunteer the information that I've applied for a grant, because the odds of actually receiving a grant are still fairly low and you don't want the employer to think that you're not serious about the position.

My project is in computational chemistry and is titled: Computational Design of New Inhibitors for TNFa in Multiple Sclerosis Drug Optimization. How about you?
Books2readme Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Mine is entitled Photoactivatable DNA-Cleaving Copper Complexes. It's inorganic research with some biochemistry and molecular biology involved. Ultimately, these complexes will be applied as more effective, less toxic anti-cancer drugs to selectively destroy cancer cell DNA.
kbui Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) Oh no, I'm freaking out! The email I used for my Fulbright application got deactivated so I've changed to a @gmail.com account now, so this means that I won't be able to get any emails from Fulbright if it goes to my old account!!! I emailed Johnathan (the adviser for East Asia Pacific applicants about this change, but he hasn't responded. I'm pretty sure I've emailed him at least twice now. What should I do??? Help!!! Did you apply at large or through an institution? If through an institution, I believe that the Fulbright adviser receives you acceptance/rejection as well, so there's that if the coordinator doesn't get back to you! Hi everyone! Anyone applying for jobs? Do you tell the employers about your Fulbright application? If I don't get the Fulbright, I'm planning to seek employment in my field-- Publishing. It's way too early for me to apply for anything, though.

Sarhush Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Why is it too early to apply? Well, I graduate in May, and I've read that it would be inappropriate to apply for jobs in this field so far in advance. I'm looking for an entry-level assistant position in a publishing house-- preferably within the publicity or editorial departments. The listings I've looked at so far are all very recent-- posted generally within the last few weeks or so. What are your thoughts? I've been planning to begin applying in late March/early April, which is when I'd also find out my final Fulbright results-- if I get that far! Edited December 1, 2012 by Sarhush
Books2readme Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 My undergrad research adviser moved to Arkansas to conduct research. I am working as a research associate in her organic chemistry lab for about 9 months at the start Feb. If I am selected for the Fulbright, I can drift right in to Spain. I'm not sure if I want to apply to med school early in the year or wait until April. I guess I'll find out in January. I get mote nervous as the day draws near

I'm guessing it's your school email that got deactivated? find a way to get your .edu email forwarded to your gmail and that should solve all the problems. if you can't do it yourself, you should talk to the ITS department at your school. MiniT Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Hello All! I applied ETA to South Africa. I am currently an undergraduate Senior although I am a "non-traditional" student. I'm really hoping that finals/holidays will prove distracting because waiting until January is tough!! Also, for some reason I had it in my head that we found out in early January BUT NO! Not until the 31st! Gasp! Best of luck to everyone!
kelseygwynne Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 THE 31ST?! IN THE PAST THEY'VE HEARD BY THE 25! whyyyyy

I'm getting more and more nervous as time goes on. I have these moments where I'm like, "Yeah, I got this! This time next year I'm going to be in Thailand drinking coconuts while planning lessons," with counter moments where I'm like, "Oh God! I'm going to be a bum next year because I'm not going to get the Fulbright!!!" Edited December 2, 2012 by kbui

MiniT Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I found it on the Fulbright website Application timeline. Apparently applicants are notified of recommendation status on January 31st. WHY?! I'll already be back in classes! I had this vision of getting my notification over winter break so that either way I could decompress before going back for Spring semester...
lxs Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Hi, Is there any way we could start a google doc now? Even though we haven't yet begun to hear results, it would be nice to know how many others from this group applied for each grant in each country. Not sure if we need to use a pre-existing doc but if not, I would be happy to start one myself for people to input info. Just a thought.

I don't remember seeing anyone posting a link of one for this year yet, so it's all you!
Books2readme Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 looking forward to the results... I'm always wondering what stage the US Fulbright Commission is in the selection process.

I wonder what they're thinking when they read my application. I want to be thrown into the "Definitely Yes" pile I imagine them having.
