Books2readme Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 On my application, there is only NR (not recommended) and R (recommended) available for selection. I guess HR (highly recommended) is not a review option.
Books2readme Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 This is directly from the link: 2. Regional Peer Review: Reviewers screen applications based on a comprehensive match to each award and recommend candidates for further consideration. Regional reviewers evaluate and rate applicants within each specific award. Regional reviewers take into account discipline reviewer criteria and comments, as well as award requirements, regional fit, language requirements, FSB policy, (including previous grants), and cultural adaptability and sensitivity. After this stage, all applicants are notified by CIES of their review status (recommended or not recommended). Recommended applicants are then sent forward for review abroad and to the FSB. (October - December) 3. Review in Host Country/Countries: Review of recommended Fulbright candidates by Fulbright bi-national Commissions or the public affairs section of U.S. embassies abroad, together with prospective host institutions, for final consideration. (November - April). 4. Selection: Review and official selection of recommended candidates for Fulbright grants by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB). Applicants will receive a letter from the FSB chair as official notice of selection for a U.S. Fulbright Scholar award. Alternates and applicants not selected will receive a letter regarding status from CIES. (January - May) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- very informative*
fondizzle Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 So freaking nervous, but its about time it's January!
Dr. Herp Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Hi all, just keep in mind that this link is for scholars and may not apply to ETA or researchers. Follow the link everyone: http://www.cies.org/Fulbrightagency_files/us/Discipline-PeerReview-Guidelines-2012.pdf This should provide us with a better idea of the review process. Oh, and here's the google doc spreadsheet again for Fulbright notifications 2013-2014: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmoTe-gJd4B9dFJ0aW1mYTVkYnhKcUEzR28yRTNwdlE
GenderandDevelopment Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I am so happy I found this forum. I know that we won't know until the end of January but I am still obsessively checking my e-mail. Anyone know how competitive the individual postgraduate UK-partnership scholarships are? I know the UK is extremely competitive, but does anyone have a sense of how many people apply for each UK-partnership scholarship? -E
akpoker21 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I am an ETA applicant to Russia. I noticed on the google docs form some people have indicated they have been interviewed. I am just wondering if any ETA applicants have had their language interview yet? Let me know
MuscaTiger Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I applied for a full research grant and was wondering: who gets interviews? Also, will our schools find out the results first? Or do they find out the same time that we find out?
BlueLightSpecial Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I am an undergraduate admissions counselor for a large, more selective public university. We release our decisions only months after the deadline has passed whereas less selective schools let students know within a few weeks. Now I am having to practice what I preach of being patient and waiting for the decision . It is also interesting being on the inside of a seemingly abstract process, college admissions, while still being mystified by how Fulbright makes their decisions. That article about Fulbright Scholars was definitely insightful, though. Hopefully we receive good news soon! Fulbright ETA, Malaysia Books2readme 1
Hoppi Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 By the way, I was just reviewing my application, and on top there is a space that says: Rating: N MA MW S RM FW Does anybody know what those acronyms mean? Hi, How does one check the status of a Fulbright application? Through cies.org or the embark web sites? Though I am very nervous to even know what acronyms are attached to my application.
kbui Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Hi, How does one check the status of a Fulbright application? Through cies.org or the embark web sites? Though I am very nervous to even know what acronyms are attached to my application. You can do it through the Embark website. You can click on "view application" or something of the sort on the left hand buttons.
cheeriooldfriend Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 You can do it through the Embark website. You can click on "view application" or something of the sort on the left hand buttons. For some reason, I can't see the 'View application' option or any of the status initials... I'm not sure why. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance.
Books2readme Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 You click "application form..." your PDF file should load.

katzky89 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I just found this forum! Just read through everything and last year's...calms me a bit while waiting for January to tick by. I applied for Creative Writing in Colombia. Anyone out there applying for or have gotten a creative writing grant?
Here'sHopin'! Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Anyone notice Fulbright Ireland tweeted: "@Fulbright_Eire: First day of #Fulbright interview are done! Good luck to everyone in the next batch."? I'm guessing they're talking about either Irish applicants who are trying to study in the US, or American applicants applying for the Fulbright Student masters program grant or the Fulbright Scholar phd grant.... I don't think the rest of us get interviews before first cut... (Not counting if you applied through your school.) Right???
Here'sHopin'! Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 This wait is a week too long! It's reminds me of when I was pregnant..the first 8 months were fine, but Month 9 seemed to last so much longer than all the others! Ha... I'm still letting myself believe that we will find out at the end of next week or right after MLK Jr. day. That's the easiest way for me to survive this interminable waiting. If anyone has a nice and talkative university FPA you should start grilling them for info and share it here with the rest us who applied at-large! I feel too bad for those fulbright program directors to call them since they must get so many emails and calls at this point...but I don't feel bad enough to wish that someone else would ask them for me! Haha...

kbui Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I don't know how I'm going to handle these next couple of weeks. I've placed too much importance, status, and honor onto the Fulbright that I feel like I'll be devastated if anything but good news comes my way. Any fellow applicants in the same situation?

Hey there, long time lurker but haven't really posted before. I am definitely in the same situation. The way I have planned things out... I just really hope I get it!! It would be an experience of a lifetime. ps: this wait is killing me. Edited January 9, 2013 by vPersie

Ugh, yes... this next week will kill me knowing the decisions have been made for weeks. Let's just remember that the world will not come to an end if we receive rejection notifications. I truly wish everyone the best. Edited January 9, 2013 by Books2readme
