I don't post on here very often, but it's just so nice to remember that I'm not the only one dreaming about rejections and freaking out every second. I think everyone around me is tired of hearing about it, and a rejection will feel pretty terrible.

On a different note, this idea about a (P) (ALT) or (NS) is making me so angry. I need ample time to prepare myself before I open the email. Are we 100% sure that the subject line will tell us the result?

I agree with you on that - I need time to prepare myself with this email.  From what I have gathered from last year's forum, there was no mention of (P) (ALT) or (NS) in early notification emails - Western Europe and Eurasia being the first out of the gate.  It does not mean there wasn't - but I would think someone would have mentioned it.  I also heard that (P) (ALT) or (NS) may have applied to East Asia/Pacific countries.  I do not remember or know what the deal with the Western Hemisphere was.  So, in essence, it is hard to note what will happen.  Perhaps people waiting to hear from Western European countries (or any really) should note what the subject line is when they receive the email.

At the risk of kicking the hornet's nest, I almost peed my pants laughing when I saw this just now. No disrespect, but if I found myself getting 'so angry' about e-mail subject line spoilers, I'd probably start to wonder if perhaps I'd lost a bit of perspective between October and now...then I'd probably take up knitting to deal with my email anger issues.

Sorry for using hyperbole on the internet.

Let me rephrase. "I don't like it."

Yeesh.

Actually, let me rephrase my response.

I'll pick up knitting, you see a doctor about bladder control.

Ahhh I'm so nervous- mine is tomorrow!!

Do you mind if I ask what sorts of things they asked you about? I have absolutely no idea what they'll even ask about or how to prepare, and as you can tell, am freaking out.

Just know why you want to go to the UK, why you're the right person, and what you would do there and you will be fine :)

(and read some news)

Regarding emails from the IIE: does anyone know if the ones from last year were all sent on Fridays (or even if none were sent on weekends)?  I know mailed notifications were the first alerts for some people last year, which has changed, but I wonder since it could be nice to only have to worry about receiving an email one day of the week!

I know what you mean.. Same here. It's kind of like, when I'm readin an exciting bit in a book and I keep thinking, "Don't read ahead, don't read ahead," and then I skip to the next paragraph to see what happens. THen I have to go back and reread the last paragraph and..yeah.

Okay. that probably doesn't make an ounce of sense!

No, I don't believe they were all sent on Fridays. I was looking at the spreadsheet from last year and I remember seeing some sent Tuesday and Wednesday.

India applicants and perhaps some others might be interested to know that the Fulbright-Nehru Scholar awards (post doc/faculty-level fellowship) were announced this past Friday.

If these awards and our student F-N awards go through roughly the same channels/committees then perhaps Friday's faculty fellowship announcements are a sign that student notifications are coming soon?

Thank you, I'm very interested to know this!  I wonder when the Scholar awards were released last year relative to everything else.

Question about transcripts: Has anyone called to verify that their transcript was received?

Yeah, unfortunately I don't see anything... I applied for the ETA, though, and it doesn't seem like it is announced at the same time as the Full, so I'm not sure if there is a correlation, at least with the ETA and Scholar.

My understanding is that people have had some difficulty getting verification, but the IIE WILL let you know if they haven't received your transcript.

Seems a lot of the concern about transcripts arriving assumes these hard copies are needed for the host countries to make their final decisions (ie "What if I get rejected because my transcript got lost in the mail?"). But since notifications have started coming before transcripts are due (March 1), the more likely scenario is that host countries get the same electronic version as the US committee, and that the official hard copy transcripts are simply part of the IIE's due diligence process, to preclude the possibility of another Adam Wheeler situation.

Soo, KLtree found out on Friday around 3 pm central. Which is about an hour from now. .................

Definitely reading too much into this..................

Agreed. It makes for an exciting wait though.

Ah! I'm so nervous too- thanks for posting about your interview. Did they ask you what you will do if you don't get a fulbright? or where you see yourself in 10 years or something?

Excellent point! Hopefully that should calm some nerves :)

That is likely the case. Some universities, for instance, don't even require transcripts for undergraduate admission on the front end, but the students enter in their information with the trust that it is accurate and honest. Once a student gains admission and enrolls, they send in official transcripts and test scores on the back end. If there is a discrepency, it is handled accordingly. From what I've heard, this system has worked very well and significantly cuts down on processing time on the university's side. It also decreases the burden on the high school side for having to provide many transcripts for applicants to certain universities.

My guess is IIE is doing something similar. It also cuts down on applicants spending money for official transcripts and then not make it past the national screening.

They did ask me number 1, but not number 2! I'd keep an answer ready for that though, I feel like my interview was shorter than most (I think they're usually about 13 min long? I was surprised by how short mine was)

I don't think that the dates/ days are significant; they were not relevant last year. Indonesia released the information a month sooner. The days of the week for notification are all over the board, and there are no apparent trends.
