jtu2tj Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 hello, I'm a canadian applying to canadian universities, one american university and some uk universities. I"m applying to Masters international development programs. I'm almost done my applications. the one thing that i'm really confused about is the funding/financial aspect. So if someone can please explain this to me it would be really helpful! when am I suppose to apply for all this stuff, and where? and how? I'm the first to do a graduate school here in my family, so this all is confusing to me. any help would be appreciated!
hopeful80 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Taking my GRE Saturday ... eep. Then after that, buckling down big time with essays and everything should be in by January! If I really bomb the GRE though, I might retake it again in Jan and hold off on submitting to some schools in Feb.
budgiepie Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 For 3/4 schools I'm waiting on the schools to update what materials they've recieved. 2 schools say they haven't recieved a thing nearly 2 months later and another school hasn't even sent me confirmation of application, I hope I gain the courage to call tomorrow, my anxiety has been really bad the past few days and I'm terrified of calling a stranger. For the last school I need to submit my GRE and SoP which I keep freaking out about since it's mt reach school and it'll never be good enough. Haven't heard anything from 2/3 of my LoR writers, might want to contact them this week.
Tolman's Rat Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I'm in exactly the same position. So I'm sleeping less, etc. I actually had a better time working on the apps, if only because I could sleep better! now the wait to feb is just agonizing I'm in the same position now as well. The application process was fun because I'd stay up until my eyes wouldn't stay open anymore working on my SOP and other aspects of the application. Now I stay up searching the gradcafe for admissions results (to compare myself to those accepted/rejected), searching Google / programs that I've applied to for what I hope will be helpful information on my chances (it never is). I mentioned this in another thread, but I would like to simply sleep until January 10th. Just a month. Even if I still have to wait a while from there, a month fast-forward would do me a lot of good.
alf10087 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Update: currently 4/6 with 3 completely finished. In the 4th one I'm still waiting for 2 LORs of which one will be uploaded today and the other one promised he'll have it by this week. In that 4th one the GRE and TOEFL scores still have to arrive, but that's just waiting (and there's plenty of time before the deadline so I'm ok). As I write this post, I'm preparing my state of mind for the 5th application.
kaputzing Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 All LORs submitted. Final draft of SOPs done for 2/3 schools due this Saturday. Writing sample NOT DONE. (If it makes anyone else feel better about their situation. Needs a lot of cleaning up too.) ;; Need to rework CV and write a personal diversity/history statement for Berkeley too. And oh yeah, it's finals week, just to top it all off. But at least all the LORs are in, so it's all on me now.
redread Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I've got my sample, SOP, and CV all ready, and I got to the end of the online application for SMU yesterday. I see that they use CollegeNET, which means that I don't get to upload my nicely formatted CV; rather, I have to put all of that info into a text box. I found it really frustrating, so I copied and pasted my awards and experience sections from my CV into a separate document and cleared all formatting. I'm trying to make it look nice enough in the CollegeNET form, but it's not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as my Word doc is. I'm considering emailing the grad department after I upload this application (tonight!) with my CV and SOP. I notified my professors who are writing LORs, and all seems to be running smoothly. I'm only applying to one school, so my stress level is fairly low, but I am working a 40 hr/wk gig and teaching online, so I have little free time.
Lilac13 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Two applications have been submitted and now I have two left to complete. One will be done tonight after I do a final proofread. The other will be finished before the upcoming holiday. It will be a little weird not having applications to work on and I imagine my time will now be consumed with endless thoughts about the notification process.
RiseofthePhoenix Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I've applied to 7/8 programs some complete, others still waiting on 1 letter of recommendation. Deadline for the final program is January 15 so I'm going to submit that one soon. Just playing the waiting game and noticing that my stress levels are slowly going down, which is good because I really need a break from a very hectic last 8 months!
meaningless Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I am working on 3 of them, getting rejected by one, and getting an interview chance. others are still working and didn't yet submitted. I am not a strong candidate, i mean anyone who look at my profile would consider that if i ever got a shot that will be a miracle from the santa claus. anyway just wanna send my regards to all of us and just don't need to stress yourself too much out. what i believe is what goes around comes around, if it is yours it will always go to you.
nohika Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Three out of four are completely submitted (everything's in, etc). Fourth is submitted, I'm just tracking materials. Extremely nervous about it because I only decided to apply there like a week ago. Something screwed up one of my four original schools (false info on a webpage, anyone?) and I had like a week to come up with a new app and write a long (4-6pg) SoP from scratch. Blech. Now the waiting begins. Thankfully I have interview transcribing, interviews, working on getting materials for my journal manuscript I'm going to start writing next semester, and prepping to join a data analysis team next semester...so things to keep me busy. I just try to avoid thinking about graduate school. If anything, I'm getting more sad about leaving my mentor of almost three years. She was getting emotional over it being "our last Christmas". Love the lady to death. Like a second Mom she is to me.
ohgoodness Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Everything in! All the recommendations done, Scores registered, Now to apply for the European schools..... :/
JISNEGRO Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I am still working on my SoPs, making them fit each university requirements, but most of the LOR have been sent so it is up to me now.
kaputzing Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Submitted one, have two more left to go for today. Anyone getting pissed off at the doc to word convertors some grad schools use where either they screw up your formatting or replace all unconventional letters/symbols with boxes or dots or stuff? Had that issue with one app. Tried to fix it for 15 minutes, got pissed, gave up, and just submitted it, dots and all.
Carnation Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I have 6/11 done so far. I like to get things just right so I end up holding on to them for a while before actually submitting. @kaptuzing - I haven't had that problem, but thank you for mentioning it. It might be hard to notice if you only had one odd symbol in your resume or some-such.
sweetpolaris Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I've submitted two applications and have three left to go! Still working on SOPs for remaining programs. Thankfully, most of my deadlines are January 15th so I still have some time. It's definitely a gradual process that takes a lot of patience.
On&On&On&On Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I am working on my diversity statement (lol), Writing Sample and Resume. I finished my SOP about a couple of weeks ago (thank god) and I will be submitting my first application tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous about writing sample but at this point I am just hoping for the best
