Did anyone hear back for an interview from Yale? I have a feeling I've been rejected :S

Nothing from Yale yet, as far as I know, but I'm applying to Bio.Anthro. I think only sociocultural does Skype interviews.

My Stanford app is also incomplete despite the fact that all my items show as being received!  Tried to contact the dept but I got no response... it makes me feel like they are only just starting to look at apps and pull things together...

I called a couple of weeks ago and she told me that they were barely putting together files. i thought that decisions came out around next week last year... doesnt that mean that they should be meeting this week?!?!?! :o

Somebody got a Berkeley acceptance, somebody got a Cornell acceptance... and neither of those people were me!!!

Damn, it's only Feb 1, how can I already be losing my mind?

I'm going to assume if I don't get an email from one of the POIs that its generally safe to say that I didn't get in -_-

There have been a lot of schools that have sent out accpetances but not rejections so far.  At least in my case.  I've been officially rejected from two but can assume it's been more like six since people were accepted to other schools I applied to and none of them were me.

I don't know--when there's only one or two acceptances on the results page, I wonder if it's just an early acceptance and the rest of the decisions haven't been finalized yet. Do departments operate that way? I don't know, but it seems odd when there are just a few results and not the usual flood.

It could be that these schools are only accepting a handful of applicants and that only 1/6 are following the site religiously.  I think last year Cornell only accepted 7 out of 170, so what are the odds many of those 7 are going to be on here?

Harvard accepted their four already for anthro archaeology Fall 2013. My friend got in via telephone on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Cornell is supposed to make a decision next week for anthro arch. so I wouldnt get too worried about the Cornell results up as of now if you are waiting for that field. I have an interview at WashU for anthro arch on Feb. 21-23. I haven't heard from anyone else yet. Has anyone hear anything from UChicago?

I always wonder what proportion of students who apply actually frequent this site. Maybe we should chase down someone in the statistics/maths forum who can work it out. But I mean, check out all of the updates for Duke or Brown, even though most of them are rejections I would say that there'd probably be more than 1/6, after all it seems natural that we'd look for advice/comfort/competition from other students and there really isn't any forum as extensive or broad as this one for applicants.

Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but I guess we're going to find out in the next month anyway.

So do you think the Cornell result is from sociocultrial or something like that?

Just wondering about any back up plans you guys might have.... since I haven't heard any news at all from where I've applied (GWU Hominid Paleo, Duke Evolutionary Anthro, Harvard HEB, NYU, CUNY, AMNH, Stony Brook, Rutgers Evolutionary Anthro).  What are your back up plans if you get no acceptances (something I'm trying to prepare myself for)? Masters programs? Are you waiting to apply to those until ~March or have you already?

Looking back I probably should have applied to a lot of masters programs as a backup.  I requested NYU consider my app for their Skeletal Bio program if denied from the phd.  Any suggestions for good bio anthro masters programs whose application deadlines haven't already passed?

yes. I talked with people from cornell this week for the arch. program

I don't believe anyone is lying on the results page. Since lots of people seem to post in groups (i.e., after a department has made its decisions), and since many of us are applying to the same schools (or there's a lot of overlap), what does it mean when there's just one or two results for a school? I don't know. But I definitely don't think people are trying to fake the results.

That said, I have read elsewhere (chronicle of higher education forums, for example) about current grad students/profs from schools checking out these forums, laughing at our anguish, etc, and commenting that they'd seen some fake results from their department.  Trolling exists.

Anyhow, these conversations are from past years so no examples that are actually relevant, and while I don't think it's that common, it has happened.

So we can all keep the dream alive!  Slash, live in denial for a couple more weeks.  Then be that much more destroyed when it turns out these results are all real.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum.  I have been monitoring the results page for weeks now.  Wondering if anyone has heard back from ASU, OSU or MSU for their biological anthropology? ASU specifically bioarchaeology.

Just submitted materials for University of South Carolina, East Carolina (masters) and UNLV which means I have a while to wait for those.

Thanks!

Hi - I wouldn't be too worried yet. I applied to some of the programs you mentioned, and even though I have talked to a couple of them (informal Skype/phone calls), some have said they only just started looking through applications. Still, if you are interested in applying to masters program, I remember seeing on the BioAnthropology News Facebook group a post about a Masters program - I think it was UWF, and the deadline is Feb. 15.

Good luck!

Lapp- asu has contacted people both ways according to results board so if you haven't heard I'm pretty sure your on their unofficial wait list since I know they have one because when applying for masters I was accepted off of it in march. OSU generally does mid-late feb and MSU generally sends out results the last week of febuary due to profs not liking confrontation at conferences. When I was applying to phd programs, UNLV contacted me first week of march through email about an acceptance, which I had to turn down. UNLV also sends the acceptance throug snail mail but mind you the was a few years ago.

Thanks AnthroGeek. I saw the results board on for ASU but wanted to double check to see if anyone had heard anything.  That is funny about MSU's professors. Appreciate the response!

A harvard rejection via email??

That has to be a troll.  Harvard in the past has been really strict about only sending them by snail mail or letting people know by phone.
