Coconut milk (2-3 tbsp), tofu, broccoli, curry: mix in a pan over heat. Easiest deliciocity imaginable. (Hint: even better with tempeh)

Sounds like something even I can make. Going to the grocery store tonight so I'll be doing this soon.

BAH I've been a vegetarian for almost 10 years and I LOVE tofu, but I still suck at making it/all other foods. Recipes please.

Anything from the Post Punk Kitchen. Isa is a genius.

Wow, this thread is certainly making me feel rather vapid.

I guess the most important thing I did over this past year was to completely re-orient myself within my field, become very.clearly.aware of the current movements and trends, reimagine my project, and reach out to various faculty members and current students for feedback to develop what I believe is a very competitive SOP and writing sample. I was happiest when, very recently, speaking to one of the pre-eminent scholars in my specific area of interest, I received a very encouraging response.

So, other than reading books and articles almost every day after it became clear that I wasn't going anywhere last spring, I've attended a couple of conferences (not as a presenter), and have shot off abstracts to a few conferences. Still awaiting decisions on one of them.

And I've been working on my languages.

Really, though, in comparison to some of the people here all this is mere fluff. @_@

Speaking of wild food combos, does anybody else thing pierogies would be amazing in/with curry?

Here in Edinburgh, there is a chippy that sells curry fries and it basically has made my life. Curry sauce + french fries = GENIUS

Not at all! I think your accomplishments this year are at least on par with, if not greater than, what everyone else has done.

Oh Holy Lord, I'd kill for some good curry chips. I ate them practically every day when I lived in Ireland. Best. Food. Evar.

Unfortunately, the only place that sold them here, a faux-Irish pub, took them off the menu about 2 years ago. WHY?!?!

There will be plenty of time for feeling inadequate! Let's all feel great right now! (Erm, insofar as that is even possible.)

You accomplished a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Get it, swagato.

It's nice to feel the good spirits. I think we've all had those moments when we look around and see our competitors presenting left and right, talking about accepted publications, and we're wondering what on earth we're hoping for.

Frankly, though, last year I ended up with one good waitlist and in retrospect, I had a -terrible- application. Rambling, unfocused SOP (2,000 word+ in all cases!), a mixed-bag writing sample that was all over the place...if indeed these two are the things adcoms weigh the most, then I'm at least certain I did a massive job upgrading both of them. After that--ball's in the other court!

All British chippies sell curry and chips! Also, it's all about the chips and gravy for me....I miss the UK :(

Same here! Honestly, when I read my SOP from last year, I cringe a little bit, but I still made it onto three waitlists. My writing sample has been edited quite a bit and I've really managed to reorient myself as a future scholar, so I'm hoping beyond hope that this year will be my year.

I just asked a prof how he deals with stress, and he said "I eat French fries."

There are far worse ways to go about it. My go to stress-food: sour apple ice pops.

re: both french fries & philly cheesesteaks, if anyone here ends up berkeley-bound, check out IB hoagies.

philly cheesesteaks.

I miss Philly :( And Whiz. You mysterious yellow substance, you.

Is it just me or is it somehow comforting to know that we have the same stress-eating habits as a tenured Ivy League academic & author of 11 books?

Nah. They're a tenured Ivy League academic; you're just a lardass. :P

I just ate two giant slices of pizza and half a bag of peanut m&ms... I used to be vegan.

You're not alone. I am a triathlete health freak. I work out for at least 2.5 hours a day and eat an extremely healthy diet. I was so stressed last night that I ate one of those "single serving" cakes that grocery store bakeries make in plastic tubs. It was chocolate peanut butter. :(

I actually cried yesterday when I ordered pizza for my all-nighter and they sent me the wrong one.

I think I need to eat some vegetables... Green Machine Naked Juice is about my only source of nutrients right now.

Really? Where do those come from? They sound amazing.

Blue Bell makes them. Here's a link to what the box looks like: http://www.bluebell.com/love-ice-cream. And they are pretty astonishing. The best part is they're only 70 calories each and it takes a while to eat them, so it keeps me distracted for a while and I don't end up huge if I go through a few during a particularly long stretch of grading or lesson planning.

Well, if they're on the same shelf as coconut pops then they must be good!

Now I'm just staring blankly at my writing sample thinking that a coconut ice pop would really be nice...
