anyone hear back from. Umass English rhetoric and composition? Looks like Umass English Lit. are already posting with interviews.

Seems like lots of Comp/Rhet posts have gone up on the boards? I can claim Texas Woman's and Virigina Tech, but does anyone else want to claim the others?

THANKS! I was absolutely not expecting this outcome for my applications! It's been crazy, and I'm super thankful to have options.

And by that I mean, has anyone heard from Penn St. who applied for rhet/comp? I saw Penn St acceptances and such on the board but wasn't sure if they were for Lit or what.

I haven't heard from them yet either. I'm taking it as an implicit rejection, but perhaps I'm being a bit premature?

Has anyone here applied to/heard from University of Arizona?

I applied to Arizona! I haven't heard anything, but if we go by the Results Board, they probably won't start notifying until this week or next week. Fingers crossed! The RCTE program looks amazing. I have a close friend there, and he loves everything about the program, the campus, and the area.

Excellent! Thanks for the information!

My guess (hope?) is that it's premature at this point. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed for acceptance though. My application there was kind of a pie-in-the-sky ideal.

With your interests, it looks like Penn State would be a great fit for you! Of course, Penn State would be a great fit for pretty much ALL of us Rhet/Comp folks, but you know. Ya never know what they're looking for this year... Good luck!

Also, I think it's still early for Penn State. Based on a friend's experience with applying last year, seems like acceptances trickle out throughout the season. I've got zero expectations as far as when I might hear a decision from PSU. Sure hope it's a YES when I do hear something! ;)

That's what I thought, but ohmygosh thank you for confirming my suspicions. I was freaking out when I saw a couple of notifications earlier, so it's nice to know I'm probably still in the running. :)

That said, I find the whole "trickling" business infuriating because I want to know, dammit!

THIS. Ugh. I just want to know. I'm thankful that places like Purdue have made the way they do acceptances and rejections very clear, but I'm still just so ready to know. Blergh.

"The committee is finalizing its review and you will be hearing back from us next week.

Thank you for your patience!"

Arizona is a great program... Dr. Enos is there...  Rhetoric Review.... and it seems they accept a large number of applicants.... but with the economy and the big increase in applicants this year ( bad economy = people going back to school)..... who knows....

exchanged a couple of very nice emails with Dr. Enos ( one of my recommenders knows her really well..)... well, fingers crossed and said a prayer!

Anyone here apply to Washington State?  I also have an app there...  Pullman Washington is in the middle of nowhere... not the most geographically appealing place, but I have heard good things about the program ...Dr. Eddy, etc......

I kind of regret not applying to Washington State. One of my letter writers told me it would be a perfect fit for me, but I was a bit thrown off by it being the entire way across the country in the middle of nowhere. Penn State's in the middle of nowhere too, but at least it's part of a "nowhere" that's only a few hours from home.

UMASS Rhet.& Comp. update: From one of my professors that still has personal contact with a member of UMASS faculty....Out of ALL the English applicants accepted....the program only takes about 3-4 Rhet.& Comp people...AND also Anne Herrington is retiring......and she is the one I was interested in working with.... it takes the bite out of the rejection a little. oh well.

Pending:  UC Irvine, Arizona, Washington State, and Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette

Rejected: UMass, Oregon and Louisville.  ( PS: another faculty source with inside knowledge about Louisville stated that the Rhet and Comp program is having some issues..... also Dr. Carol Mattingly retired this year... )
