Inspired V Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 So I know there's a similar thread on the main forum, but I thought it might be nice to have a place to vent for us social work hopefuls! Personally, I'm getting really antsy about hearing from schools and really just want to know now! When I look back at the dates I submitted, I realize it hasn't been that long since I applied and I should cut them some slack... but that doesn't change the fact that I want to know if/where I got in and start making plans for the next big move in my life! Any good ideas for how to stay distracted and lessen the anxiety level this time of the cycle? Fingers crossed for good results for all of us
awright228 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I applied to MA progams and their priority deadlines all end tomorrow....even though my applications were all in a few weeks ago, so I have a lot of waiting ahead of me!!! I am NOT looking forward to it I do not know what I am going to do to distract me, besides look around gradcafe ha ha...
kiki123 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 (edited) I've applied to four so far. I have two more left, one due at the end of this month. It's unnerving to wait for responses, but the community on here is great! Generally, though, I just try to keep myself busy. Edited January 15, 2013 by kiki123
Inspired V Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I got my first "application status changed" email this morning and totally freaked out!! Unfortunately, it appears that it was simply a letter from the program director with general information about the process that had been added... talk about a tease! But since several of my programs said decisions would be made within 6-8 weeks... I'm due to hear very soon
MSW13 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 It has been a month since I got my application in and from going to the school's info session, I know that the committee wont be sitting down and going over them until February. Right now they are just sorting applications and weeding out the ones that are clearly a 'no', for instance the incomplete applications, and those that dont meet the minimum gpa criteria. I'm not sure if this is true for other universities but the ones I applied to tend to send out rejection letters early on for those applications that will not be formally reviewed. In that sense, the longer it takes to hear back, the better For me it helps knowing what their process is and what sort of timelines they go by. It is still a very hard wait-- just try to stay busy!
Inspired V Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 A strange email (actually several) from University of Maryland Baltimore have indicated that my decision letter is in the mail! I don't know why they don't make the decision available online, but now I'm feeling really anxious. The emails themselves are strange though. Essentially, they say to disregard the decision letter mailed on 22 January, because a revised one was sent today. I was hoping I'd get the erroneous one today, so that I could hope for the real one on Saturday, but I didn't get anything today so I'm probably looking at next week before knowing. Anyone else get these messages?
sarahrose Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I want to add, they don't just eliminate candidates if their GPA is low.. They look at more then just your GPA.. Just wanted to make that clear.
gradschoolmom Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Waiting myself...some I will not hear until Spring due to deadlines and such. Have another application due for Bryn Mawr (my last minute choice after attending a discovery weekend). The waiting is the hardest part! I could hear from USC probably anytime, but just based on info from here and other sites, I think I have about a month to wait before I hear. I also wish schools would release results online or something! At least some are notifying by email!
alliehewitt89 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I've been lucky. Even with a low GPA I have already been accepted to 2 schools. I applied to places where my boyfriend is looking for police jobs. The major stress I'm experiencing is not having heard from any of the other Michigan schools I applied to, since he has an interview with the Michigan State Police on March 9th. He also has an interview with the Dallas Police Department from March 21-24, which isn't so stressful since I have already gotten into UT Arlington. If anyone has been to or knows any information about UT Arlington's program, I would love to hear about it!

basquiat81 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Lychee Sake and lots of cycling- not at the same time tho gradschoolmom 1
gradschoolmom Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I know I'll feel better when I have at least one acceptance. I have a "pretty sure thing" school but I won't hear till April, and a lot of more competitive schools are deciding earlier. That's a long time to sit chewing on (potential) rejections until I get some positive news! No mail or email today to help....the waits continue!
citychild Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 All I can say is that I'm glad the Postal Service have not made Saturday delivery cuts yet.
