judowrestler1 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Wow, my top choice and accepted this early. This is amazing. ohgoodness and billybob 2
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Congratulations! How did they let you know?
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Now you've got me nervous and biting my nails.
judowrestler1 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Congratulations! How did they let you know? E-mail from the director of graduate studies
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 My applicant center still says no decision rendered. I could hardly sleep last night I'm so nervous!
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Another question - how early did you apply?
judowrestler1 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 (edited) Another question - how early did you apply? Mine was in by late October although my late rec letter wasn't submitted until the day before the deadline. Edited January 15, 2013 by judowrestler1
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I see. I submitted mine about 3 days or so before the deadline, and my late rec letter was in about a week after. Did they say anything to you that might hint they were still admitting people? I'm so nervous.
judowrestler1 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 It wasn't mentioned at all. The letter did say that fewer than 1 in 40 were admitted this year.
OhioStateStudent Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I see, so it seems as though they've already made their decisions then. My app status still says that a decision has not been made yet, but I will assume it's a rejection.
OhioStateStudent Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Still haven't heard anything. I'm dying here.
ANDS! Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 NW is incredibly small, so I wouldn't beat myself up if you don't get in; kinda curious though why you'd want to leave OSU for NW considering their rep's and size.
OhioStateStudent Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'm fairly certain I won't get into OSU. I've seen the stats of people applying there, and they seem to blow mine out of the water. I'm really just anxious for an acceptance from somewhere. I am very stressed and worried that I will not get in anywhere. I have a 3.5+ GPA, research experience (economics), teaching experience, etc. but my grades in some of my math classes have not been stellar (Only 2 A's diffy q, and lin alg)

It really was the LOR's and SOP that won them over I am thinking. Nevermind I didn't hear from anyone until the beginning of Feb. As for getting in somewhere - so long as you applied to schools you do not mind getting into, and did reasonably well in Calc. - you should be fine I would think (unless of course you only applied to like 5 schools).
OhioStateStudent Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I applied to: Northwestern, OSU, UIUC, Rutgers, U Virginia, Virginia Tech, U Connecticut, U Mass, Michigan State I got a B+ in Multivariable calculus, but I got a C+ in Real Analysis 1 (with a professor that has written articles on how lazy students are. It was a great experience). I'm in Real Analysis 2 with a great professor, but that is meaningless now of course. I am an OSU undergrad and so 1 of my LORs is from a very well liked (although not necessarily research prestigious professor) and another is from a very well known Econ professor that does Econometrics. Hopefully they work in my favor. In any case, your words are encouraging, and offer me some comfort, so thank you for that!
Statsfrommaths Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'd put good money on you getting into somewhere you applied.
OhioStateStudent Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I sure hope so! I appreciate the confidence.
