kentuckygirl
Kentuckygirl! I, too, am very fortunate and have a great job! I have not been able to find another program that is practice-based. Please keep in touch with what you find! Best wishes, I know you'll succeed at whatever you do! Yes, I would LOVE to keep in touch! I think the reason this program is so competitive is there are so many people who would prefer practice based educational doctorate programs and this is the only one. I am going to have to bite the bullet, I think, and go research based, but I would have preferred to be in a practice based program. If Harvard's program is successful, I am sure more people will follow. I am considering applying to Harvard's new PhD program next year, along with the standards.... Stanford, Penn, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, the new Hopkins program, etc. I decided that if I am going to go into a research based program, I will be applying based on whether or not there are mentors at the school I want to work with, as opposed to program reputation. Research is a very intensive process and it is critical to have the right advisor match.... I wish you the best as you continue your journey! Do you think an EdM will be worth student loans and quitting your job, etc.????
EdYouKateOr
You know it's not too late to apply for the Hopkins program for this fall. I also looked at that one as it is more focused on the practitioner. ,I wish you the best as well. For the EdM I would not have to quit, I would just take a leave of absence. I already have a bunch of loans , so that doesn't really bother me, but seeing if I get any support will play a major factor in my decision making. Happy Tuesday! kentuckygirl
I am also weighing whether it would make me more competitive for a reapply to the EdLd. I am guessing that what you do in your career will make you more competitive than the Harvard program, particularly based on the bios of the accepted EdLD candidates - Harvard does not seem to be a theme, but very high achievement and high power education positions early in careers seems to be a theme. ONLYHARVARD
Starting to go through the stages of grief (don't really know what they are ). Am still in denial , have been a little sad, but starting to feel mad. Is there a particular reason they can't send out the rejections when they send out interview invites? What is the reason for waiting another month? Edukateor..... Thank you for starting this thread. I thought you started this thread so that we could support each other during this time. It seems like you have given up. Don't give up yet!!!!! Invites may still come. Give it to Friday. I talked to someone that was accepted in cohort 2....all invites do not go out at the same time. They do go out the same week. Decisions are still being made if what they have done in the past is any indicator. What is so special about the year 2013 that they would all of a sudden change the formula? Nothing. EVERYBODY: HOLD ON AND KEEP THE FAITH...AT LEAST UNTIL FRIDAY! merrysoprano
You never know, OnlyHarvard. Maybe that near-miss with the Mayan Apocalypse in December 2012 prompted the HGSE admissions crew to seize the day and send it all on at once. (In all seriousness, good luck, everyone! Don't give up hope yet.) kentuckygirl
ONLYHARVARD
Actually none are sent yet!!!! Next week!! They will send them out. It's been a slow year I guess. Promise that I'm telling the truth!! Don't want to put anyone on the spot but its a more secure source than a student. No offense!!!! Everyone hold your breath for one more week.[/quote MusicKk.... Will you be my online optimistic friend? I refuse to give up or give in. I fully believe what you said last week is true. This week...invitations will be sent out throughout the week..... How is that possible that they go out slowly? I always figured that they go out to their top choices and the window allows for spaces to be filled if people refuse the interview offer.... It would seem that they must know who they are interested in at this point....... and the 22nd gives little time to book flights, etc..... also reinforcing the question re: timing.... hmmmm

I told them I knew them went out but when would they be done sending them. And that was what she told me. I hate it too. My partner said we should all look at it as fun... Lol what ever that means. ONLYHARVARD
I so appreciate you! Thanks I needed that! Anytime! I have a challenge for all of us that are waiting for our interviews that may distract us from some of our anxiety. Try to create a budget for one year based on the 21,000 stipend that will be provided to us when we become the new cohort! It is going to be so great living like a full time student again. I am looking forward to dorm life and have decided not to take my car. I have never "done" public trans, but look forward to learning how to utilize it. See yourself selected...feel yourself selected...own that...I AM SELECTED. I really believe that. Btw, the profiles that have been shared have only represented a small percentage of each cohort. Please trust and believe that the other people that were selected are those that have been in the trenches...teachers, administrators, non-profit workers, etc., that went to non IVY schools. I AM SELECTED...keep saying it until you "see" it. Edited February 13, 2013 by ONLYHARVARD EdYouKateOr, kas18 and ONLYHARVARD

vincehoward
I believe they pay for the whole visit...can't remember where I heard that. HGSEhopeful do you have any insight on this? HGSE pays for the visit (airfare, hotel, food) if you are selected for an interview. However, invites have already gone out by now for sure folks. The admissions office is probably telling people to wait until the 22nd in the event that a few prospectives decide to drop out of consideration, but we all know that this is extremely unlikely. If you believe the FAQ on the Ed.L.D site, it says that interviews will be held on February 28 or March 1. Given the fact that most of the people interviewing for these spots are in high powered positions, I'm sure HGSE plans to give them at least 2-3 weeks advance notice so they can make the necessary arrangements at work. I would agree with this post completely. It would be almost impossible for me to arrange my work to get to Harvard with only 6-7 days notice - they know this. I have always said that I think the window is so that they can contact people as interviews are refused. While I do believe in hope and optimism, I also think it is critical to be realistic. There may be someone who gets interview notification between now and the 22nd... but I do not think they are processing a slew of applicants between now and then... I think they have their list, as HGSE said, and are checking people off. Does anyone know of any circumstance where Harvard accepted someone without an interview? What if a candidate was an American teacher overseas (we have seen a few here) - do you think that would automatically disqualify them because they did not want to cover airfare? Do you think if someone was interesting they might take them without interview? Hmmmmmmmmm........ ONLYHARVARD

Again people no-one on this blog knows anything for certain. You can give into the negative speak if you want to. Hgsehopeful doesn't know anymore than anyone else. I refuse to give up hope. This is HARVARD we are talking about, the best school in the universe. They aren't planning events around what it will take for you to come for an interview. When HARVARD calls, you come running. I don't care if they call me the day before the last day of interviews; I am calling into work, grabbing the bag that I already have packed and leaving asap!!! I really don't understand how some of you want to be leaders of change but the least little thing brings major doubt? Where is your faith in yourselves? I will not allow anything that anonymous blogger that is still visiting this blog after declaring invites have already gone out, says. If that's true why still come to this blog? Face it guys, there are some very sad people in this world that love urinating on people's dreams fir no reason. They go to children's b-day parties just to pop all of the balloons....Go by what ADMISSIONS says...not someone that is trying to get selected just like you, Geez Louise.
