Has anyone heard from MIT EECS?

From the above link, MIT's visit date for admitted students is Feb 28/March 1.

 

It seems obvious to me that a university, particularly one of MIT's stature, would know better than to admit a student and then invite them to a visit with less than a week to prepare.

 

Time/planning issues aside, schools generally fund travel costs, and domestic flights are expensive enough to book so close to the flight date, let alone international ones.

 

I guess it ain't over until it's over., but can't say it looks good, y'all.

Actually, EE doesnt refer to us(EECS phd) when used internally at MIT. If you check here: http://www.eecs.mit.edu/academics-admissions/graduate-program/degree-programs     , you'll notice EE refers to the Electrical Engineer Program.

I hope you are right. But this statement gives me pause: For EE only events on Friday March 1st: These are EE preferred because we want to give the admits EE attending these events (there are no CS admits) the chance to talk to students from their own field.

 

To me, it sounds like they say EE, not EECS, because the none of the visiting students are the CS department. Anyway, they are expecting 125 students to visit. Anybody know how many PhD students EECS admits each year? That would clarify whether this posting is for EE or EECS

103 CS admits and 60 EE admits,says one graduate student association member in that admits facebook group

anyway,there seems to be a visit day on 2nd march,which is about 10 days. Results are already released for admits or this friday is a sure time for results then.

And going through that facebook group,it do seem most of them had admits. Atleast some 50 for 165 strong EECS program

I just called the EECS office as well. They told me pretty much the same thing, but I also asked them about how some people have already received acceptances via email. They said that some people have been notified, but some people who are admitted have not yet been notified. So there is still hope for us. She said to check the website tomorrow, because they hope to have all of them up by then.

i had also mailed my enquiry two days back and got my reply today. It just reads 'we are posting the decisions in very near future. Check your online application time to time'.

All form of enquiry says pretty much the same thing. :-)

has anyone from Area 1 got their results?? I found a post on the FB page saying that the number of admits to area 1 would be less than 60.

out of 5 areas,i guess area I would be only 20 or 30. i still can't believe that we would get official admit from MIT without a POI have a small discussion with us. Yet,wait for ten hours to unknot the suspense.

In my opinion, MIT has lost a serious amount of respectability and prestige.

 

I guess they receive a similar number of applications as Stanford and Berkeley. However, both of these schools have revealed the acceptances on the anticipated days...

 

Who the hell do they think they are! Making people wait wait and wait!

true. They were shut down for 2 days. Except that they were on schedule. They talk different on every single day. I never thought they decide things in ad - hoc and unplanned way.
