Well folks ... as expected... standard rejection letter from UNC Chapel Hill.

I have other applications pending and I am remaining hopeful!  It was a reach, anyway, and a highly competitive program.  Unsure if this "decision available" change was a result of my email with the graduate coordinator earlier today.

Keeping my chin up ... the grad program for me will remain unknown!! :-)

I strongly feel that you have nothing to worry about! You have so many great options lined up (hello, USC!) and were even asked to complete a supplemental app. We all have your back here.

Keep smiling.

I have a feeling that the rejection was really a result of my AP statistics -- even though I stated that I'd be taking stats over the summer to earn the traditional required credit.  I mean, at the info session when they say "don't even apply unless you have pre-reqs," that's a little daunting.  I also have 1 pre-req in progress this semester (audiology) and was planning to take speech science over the summer.  Ah well, I have other schools that I like a little better.  I had enough of the UNC parking problems for my undergrad and first master's degree.  Besides... I need to diversify my CV, anyway!!! :-)  All upsides, as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, I didn't know they were so adamant about the pre-reqs! Ah well, we are all moving along :)

I think you definitely have the right attitude about this, this is a sign that you are probably meant to move on to a different area that you will surely love. Good luck with the rest of your schools! :)

And a quick congrats to everyone that has received acceptances the last few days!

for financial aid, the application deadlines are different depending on the school, right? i've just gotten caught up in so many things with school that I completely forgot about this. I think most of the programs I applied to don't have a deadline until april 1st (so after I find out my decision), but I just want to make sure I'm sending the fafsa where it needs to go in time! don't want to get shut out of financial aid!

Got some email updates to offer for everyone, don't know if this is relevant to most of the posters on here, but here anyway:

UNC Greensboro will notify between March 8 and April 15.  (such a BIG window!)

Western Carolina will notify between March 8 and March 15.

U of South Carolina is expected to notify mid-March.  (I'm secretly hoping for March 15)

ECU will notify starting March 15th, giving first cycle until April 15th to respond.

Haven't heard from App State yet as far as the window but I have emailed them to ask.

Did USC send out a mass email?

Here is the email I got, it was after my application was complete.

"Your application to pursue a masters degree in our MSP program is now complete.  Decisions should be made mid-March and at which time notification will be made by letter." (from Teresa Boyett)

This is the first night I have without a ridiculous amount of schoolwork/studying. I spent the first part of the night watching mindless TV, talking on the phone with my mom, and reading a new book on my Nook. My boyfriend and I are going out soon for half-price appetizers at Applebees  :D .

Are you keeping busy, kcald?

What is everyone doing tonight?  It's quiet on the board!

I just got home from a tea party/antique appraisal party...lol

I just finished up my taxes and my FAFSA. Woohoo! One more thing done.

We just finished watching the UNC- Clemson basketball game, and getting some food from CookOut.  Yummy, and YAY TAR HEELS!!! :-)

Also trying not to go insane updating my mother (who actually wants to know) about the application processes.

Just got our tax refund check from federal in our bank account (YAY!!!!)

And paying bills.  Tomorrow is a new month...  <_<

Also scouting out possible housing, as well as some small amount of job-hunting for my husband around the universities left on my list.

My cat is ENTIRELY too needy for attention lately.  So I'm about to put down the computer and pick up the ipad so I can tend to his needs.

Hi guys, I'm new, anxiously waiting for decisions, and found this thread. Was just rejected from UNC-CH :/

Has anyone applied to SDSU, IU-Bloomington, NYU, Montclair State or TC-Columbia and know when we'll hear back from them?

My stats are mediocre compared to a lot of people here so I'm not expecting any good news in March but I'm still hoping I'll get in somewhere..

I also just got my rejection notice from UNC today.  Kind of a let down, but I'm going to focus on my other apps that will notify around March 15th.

Don't worry about stat comparison - from what I've seen, we have people of all ranges of GRE and GPAs around here. You are TOTALLY in the right place, so don't worry about comparing to others on here. Plus, there isn't really a magic formula to get accepted anywhere, anymore.  A lot of schools are starting to post how they go beyond the numbers to look at the whole applicant.

Best of luck to you!!  We'll be waiting to hear, with you!

Don't lose hope!!! I'm on my phone so I can't see your stats, but I'm sure they are anything but mediocre.

I'm thinking that UNC was hypercompetitive this season, so that probably isn't a reflection on you.

Any Northeastern applicants here?

I applied to Northeastern.

Thanks for the encouragement  :)

I never really expected to get into UNC, it was a bit of a reach so I'm not surprised.

Didn't post my stats below but here they are:

Overall GPA - 3.28 (parents wanted me to major in something else at first and then I rebelled during sophomore year)

Double majoring in Psychology (Honors) and French, Psych GPA - 3.68

159V, 157Q 4.5AW

I know I've got fantastic LORs and decent (although somewhat out of field) experience so I hope that they overshadow the low numbers and work more favorably with schools that don't look at just the stats.

Salut, mystique! Bienvenue et bon courage.

kcald, I'm sorry to hear about Chapel Hill, but you have an awesome attitude, and I know you'll be fabulous wherever you go!

JMarti, any word from Chapel Hill or UVA (though you'd probably update if so)? I'm still waiting for UVA.

No word at all! I know I haven't been accepted to UNC, but I'm waiting to see if I was wait listed or rejected. It's sad, but I still have wonderful options that I'm waiting on.

I don't think UVA has reported to everyone yet, so I'm expecting they will start either tomorrow or next week.

I know I will be hearing from Florida State on 3-11 and I'm hoping to hear from USF next week? Not sure how realistic that is though!

Yeah, I'm still unnerved by the possible UVA trickle-down notification method. I will be thrilled to get in, but I may gnaw my fingers off if I don't hear anything definitive until mid-April, which has happened to applicants in the past.

As long as you explained your low GPA I do not think it will be much of a problem. You have great GRE scores and the great LOR you have will help you out as well. I am an out of field Psychology major too and I think we are in a good position because having both psychology and speech pathology knowledge can be very helpful when it comes to some communication disorders like autism, tbi, and language disorders. I have heard of people majoring in economics and history that still get in to speech path. programs, so I think you should be fine. Good luck to you!
