I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from UVA.

Also, any idea what their funding looks like? There are some professors there doing work that really fits my interests, but I have no idea what to expect in terms of funding.

Last-- the website says you can finish your phd in 3 years if you come in with a MA. I'm wondering how possible that really is, and also whether it'd be advisable.

I emailed about their process for the higher ed concentration and was told that they would notify people in mid to late February. In terms of funding for PhDs, it seems to be research assistantship focused in order to cover living stipends, tuition, and health insurance.

Honestly, no idea about your last question-- that is extremely quick but not unheard of.  I would assume that this would be based on them waving a lot of core courses if your master's program coursework matches up well with their own.

I think that depends whether you want to go faculty or not.  If you want to go faculty, trying to complete in 3 years is going to make it a bit challenging because you'll need to hit the ground running in terms of research and publications in order to have a couple articles published by the time you go out on the market.  You might have to do a postdoc - which are not too plentiful in education but I have seen some.

If you want to go into policy or admin, I don't think a shorter time to degree is really going to make that much of a difference.

I don't know if this helps since I'm a master's applicant, but they sent out an email saying that decisions would be made in late February/early March. I also got a pretty intense schedule about what the internship picking process would be like. Eight interviews in one day for the internship?!

Yeah, I'm curious about the Social Foundations acceptance on the result pages as well. More so bc I applied to the exactly same specialization. Please share!

I applied to a Ph.D. program at Curry, and I had a phone interview with a professor back in December.  I heard last Friday that I didn't get into the Ph.D. program but was still being considered for the Masters program, and those decisions should be going out end of February/beginning of March.

To answer some of your questions,

1) The professor I talked to said Ph.D. funding was guaranteed for four years.  When I asked if it was reasonable to get through the program in four years, she said students have managed to do it, even if they don't have a background in Higher Ed.

2) When I got rejected from the Ph.D. program, I asked if there was funding for Masters students.  Nope.  There isn't any.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear.  I don't know about you all, but I'm glad February is winding down.  It's been a long couple months.

I applied to the Higher Ed phd and haven't heard anything yet. I know this concentration doesn't have an interview component and was told that decisions would be out in the early spring semester. Still just waiting.

Good luck to all!

I applied to Teacher Prep/MAT and I got an e-mail today asking me to resend my transcript because they couldn't read my old one (because I had to compress it a million times to get it to fit onto their online submission), which means my program is in review.  Not sure if they do it on a rolling basis but I got my app in early.

Me too! I wonder how many people they take a year. Probably not many...

I got impatient and emailed. They said they're still making decisions and will know something by early next week at the latest.

I got impatient and called too lol

The person said the result will be out early March as what you were told... so I guess we could hear something (good or bad) from them next week!

I hope this is the same for all concentrations! Everything is independently decided at Curry and we may be hearing at different times. Good luck to all!

Just got into the higher Ed program! They probably put it up a minute earlier because I was refreshing my status on the bus while also checking my email to see if any other responses were coming in. Good luck!

Congrats! Was it on the My Applications page? I applied for the PhD and I know that the process is a little different.

Congrats emvtgse! I checked my status after i saw your post but still no change on mine.. I really hope they tell me soon one way or the other!! Argh!!!!!

I haven't received an email, it was just on the my status page at the bottom. I literally refreshed it being bored on my commute home so they are probably just doing it one by one or something along those lines. A new link showed up with the status to check. The letter was dated March 4th too. Good luck.
