Laurenann924 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 For those of you that have been accpeted to CU, did anything change in your MyCUBoulder portal yet?
Slptlc Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 For those of you that have been accpeted to CU, did anything change in your MyCUBoulder portal yet? Nope- it still says file compete and that's it's being reviewed.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 For those of you that have been accpeted to CU, did anything change in your MyCUBoulder portal yet? Same thing here.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Has anyone accepted heard on funding so far? I'm not expecting anything, and it's really not going to change my decision, but it would be nice to know. The admissions info notes that letters of funding go out with acceptance letters. I'm not sure, though, if they mean the departmental letters or the graduate school letters. To those still waiting to hear back or on the waitlist, fingers remain crossed!
Tuck Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Nothing here. I wrote Amy Walker today to ask about the open house, and I also inquired about funding. I'll let you know here if I hear anything! I was waitlisted for funding from Vanderbilt today, so I'm hoping another school will come through with something.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Tuck, did you get the email today on the itinerary for said open house?
midnight Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Tuck, did you get the email today on the itinerary for said open house? Yeah, it looks like they will discuss funding options during open house. The itinerary looks very thorough and like it will cover every question that I've had so far about research, curriculum, etc.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Yeah, it looks like they will discuss funding options during open house. The itinerary looks very thorough and like it will cover every question that I've had so far about research, curriculum, etc. It does look pretty action packed!
Tuck Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I did get the itinerary, which prompted me to finally write them about it. (I'm the one who didn't have any mention of it in my letter.) I agree that the agenda looks great - I think many of my remaining questions will be answered. My plan was to try to only visit one school, and I had hoped the choice would become obvious based on news about scholarships/assistanships. But right now I find myself having a hard time choosing, so I guess I'll be traveling a lot in the next 3 weeks! We need a plan for identifying one another at the visit! It would be good to put faces to (screen)names.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 We could do it James Bond style and all wear a flower corresponding to our nicknames... midnight 1

I don't envy you... well I sort of do, having a lot of great offers to choose from is an enviable position, but I'm very happy to know where I'm going and as only choices go CU is a pretty darn good one. For me it's now down to figuring out funding and exactly how I will transition out of my job, which is just the next thing to be nervous about. Do you have anywhere you are leaning towards? Also, out of curiosity what factors are in your decision? Edited March 23, 2013 by CO (soon to be) SLP

I am certainly pleased to have so many wonderful choices! Right now the indecision is just bugging me, and the traveling will be pricey. I'm probably leaning slightly towards Vanderbilt, with Colorado as a close second. Northwestern is just too expensive. I would be happy at any of the schools to which I applied, however.
klgreen88 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I haven't heard anything from Boulder either. I called today and they said they were working on the letters as we spoke. I find it weird that some people have been accepted, rejected, and waitlisted but I have heard nothing. Should I expect a rejection? Applied: CU Boulder, ASU, UNC (Greeley) Accepted: Rejected: ASU Same here! I guess I'm expecting a rejection. That's grad school life, I guess. I've been accepted to Vanderbilt as an alternate for funding, accepted at UT Dallas with an offer of an RA position at the Center for BrainHealth (probably going there), and waitlisted at U of Washington.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) klgreen88 and Laurenann924, I wish I had some insight for you into the process, but nothing's over till it's over. I think I saw a UC Boulder acceptance on the board posted recently. It may help to know that I live in Boulder now and Friday we had a bunch of crazy power issues that I think affected everyone near downtown and the university. ESLtoSLP Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Amy Walker returned my phone call inquiring about the waitlist. She said there are 34 people on the waitlist. She mentioned that the waitlist is not ranked, but the committee basically knows who they want to roll up if spots become available. She was very kind and stated that they had over 500 applicants again this year, and unfortunately they had to turn away many amazing applicants. I'm a little confused that they would have 34 people on a waitlist for only 30 spots. I was hoping the list would be smaller.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 ESLtoSLP, That does seem like a pretty big list, but they probably want to have a deep field to pull from to keep things balanced, and with it being so competitive I imagine they expect many of their selections to have many choices. I also wonder if they mayby didn't admit for a larger class? Either way my fingers are crossed that you are one of those the committee wants to roll up and a slot opens for you!
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Herd back from the department today a little on Funding. They did mention that most questions would be answered at the open house, but for those curious decisions on assistantships would come out closer to the April 15th deadline, and it sounded, baed on the email, as though you would have to accept an offer first. I suppose I'll find out in a week. Good luck to everyone still waiting on a list, my fingers are still crossed for you!
midnight Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Who's definitely attending the open house--CO SLP, Tuck, anyone else? I'm flying to Denver on Thursday, and Friday is supposed to have beautiful weather.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Be prepared for it to be a little cool, it's doing a fun little snow/sleet thing now (or at least it was as I was driving back from ASL class in Westminster) and another storm is set to hit the mountains Thursday night/Friday morning which might make things a bit chilly/cloudy. Other than that I'm very excited about the open house and hope to meet a lot of the students as well as the faculty! I noticed quite a few CU acceptances on the results board, so I'm not sure why this thread isn't hopping a little more? On a semi-related note, since it seems to be all the rage, does anyone know a Facebook page for admitted students? Edited April 3, 2013 by CO (soon to be) SLP
Tuck Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I am actually not going. :-( I have a big work thing going on Friday that I've been unable to weasel my way out of, as we're currently short-staffed. Please let me know how it is!
midnight Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Aw, I'm sorry you're not able to make it. I was looking forward to meeting you! I'll definitely relay any important info and my impressions (not that I have much to draw from) to you after the open house.
Tuck Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I know, I was excited about meeting you too! (And CO (soon to be) SLP!) Thank you in advance for sharing your impressions! Have a great trip.
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Tuck, I'm back from the open house, let me know if you want a rundown, or if you were able to get questions answered. I'm sorry I wasn't able to meet you in person! Midnight, it was great meeting you! I hope to see you here in the mountains come fall!
SDBear Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I was unable to attend the open house today and would love a quick rundown or at least what your impression of the program was if you get a chance!
CO (soon to be) SLP Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 it may not be "quick" but I'll write something up... take it with a grain of salt and please talk to people, I found everyone to be busy but VERY approachable and honest. SDBear 1
