Goobah Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I'm not really asking for any specific reason -- just curiosity. I wonder how many different types of "application" software there are. One university just used an HTML page (like an online form) to fill out on their departments website. Yet another University I applied at used a special company called "Review Room." I've seen other people mention a couple of other names -- but I can't remember exactly what they were (nor can I find the thread now). I wonder how much they pay for the service etc... Who would have known there was such a market!!! Did you find the software easy to use? Annoying? I liked review room -- it was super easy, I could see exactly what I uploaded and how it would look to everyone else. Too much time to think obviously...
Tuck Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) Univ. of Utah and Northwestern both used "Apply Yourself" for the programs I applied to. Vanderbilt had what appeared to be their own proprietary thing, which was.... not user-friendly. I found most of the applications fairly annoying. Edited February 26, 2013 by tuckerma
Provincial Cosmopolitan Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Most of them used the ApplyYourself software, but there seem to be two different general versions of the software. Others universities had proprietary software, like Brown.
Goobah Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 ApplyYourself! That's the one I've heard referenced before. I'll have to go see how awkward it looks in comparison to ReviewRoom haha. Does applyyourself show the "deny or accept" button? Or is that one of the other colleges -- I saw last year that several denver people referenced that, but that could have been in the university system itself, rather than in the application software.
ion_exchanger Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Four of my programs used apply yourself, which means I had to keep track of a combination of random letters and numbers. The other three used their own software on their website. Navigation on them all was fairly easy. Because they all looked somewhat similar, I had constant anxiety making sure that I filled each of them out fully, so I signed up for all of them to send my recommenders their links, but then worked on one at a time. I guess it beats paper applications, but the apps that required a faxed transcript really annoyed me, because it took FOREVER to get the sizing correct.
