Just got into Baylor, w/ a 25k scholarship! I'm almost positive I will accept the offer, so maybe this will help SLP Steph =)

Edit: I applied/was accepted for Summer 2013, so I may have been notified before the Fall people.

Thanks, ladies! I'm almost positive I will take it, because Baylor was one of my top choices from the get-go. It seems like the best environment for me and I'd graduate in August '14.  I just want to get more input from family/professors/students and sleep on it before making my final choice.

And SLPjmar, i almost didn't recognize you with your new identity! Very sneaky ;)

Just got accepted to Baylor! I was getting nervous because I hadn't heard anything but I just got my email! I was offered a total of $38,000. This makes the decision harder lol...

And congrats katieliz456!!

Dang, girl, congratulations! So you could go to Baylor for basically free, huh?

Are you thinking Baylor now?

Haha I wish! I'm coming in as a leveling student, so I actually would have to do two extra semesters. It's a generous offer and I was really surprised, but it still leaves quite a bit of money to come up with, so I'm still not sure. I'm still holding out hope that I'll hear from Vanderbilt soon!

I am so excited for SLPSteph and Katieliz456!

Now I will be biting my nails-If the Vandy spot opens because Katie lets it go, Steph could go to Vandy and then I could get accepted to UT Dallas off the wait list! I feel queasy.

I am glad I found this site and the Texas thread!  Toonces, it appears that you only applied to UTD-which is exaclty what I did.  I'm so glad I saw your post about following up with them!  While I was not waitlisted, they thanked me for my email and for expressing continued interest in the program.  I guess I am on the unoffical waitlist of the waitlist!  I am honestly okay with reapplying in the spring--it would actually make my life a whole lot simpler and I know I can make my application stronger by then too!  I bet you are going to get one of the waitlist spots!  Thanks to the large size of the program, and the fact that the other Texas schools have been quite slow, there are going to be a lot of changes in the next couple of weeks!  Are you in-field or out of field?  I am currently taking two pre-req classes and would like to finish my leveling online because it is easier on my schedule.

We need to figure out some way to bribe the adcom and make our little swap happen! hehe

Haha, works for me!  If we can figure out how to get me admitted off of the wait list with some funding too, that would be perfect ;)

And hang in there ladies!!  It's not over yet!  Most schools seem to have deadlines of April 15, so I'm assuming there should be a lot of movement on wait lists around that time :)

Hey, Tex_Hart, I feel the same way about reapplying in Spring (it may come to that) because there would be fewer apps to compete with, ya know? As far as the waitlist goes, I may be #1 or #15, so I'm not letting myself get excited. I am glad it sounds like hey're not letting you off the hook yet-we never know and so many folks are applying all over the country. A ton of people might choose schools elsewhere that cost less/are closer to their home, etc.

I am in the field, by the way and am currently going to UTD for my undergrad. Where are you going right now? (And yes, I only applied to UTD)

This is pretty suspenseful stuff!

I am taking leveling courses online.  I have kids, so it is easist to do as much from home as possible!  I already did one masters at UTD (in a totally different area) and look forward to hopefully being back there!  I applied to UTD because they are way more flexible for part time students.  If I don't get in this fall or spring, I will look into the other two programs in Denton.  I live fairly far north of the city so my commute to Denton would not be too much worse than to Callier downtown.  If I get into UTD, I hope to find a carpool buddy so we can take the HOV lane on 75!  I am 100% confident that you will get off the waitlist this year but I can understand why you are worried!

I just had a 30 minute phone chat with Dr. Garrett from Baylor. He seems super nice and extremely enthusiastic about the program.  (I also found out he went to Iowa and worked at UW-Madison, which makes him seem more credible.)

He also told me that for the first half of summer we work with the literacy camp, which sounds AWESOME. : D

Awesome!  At this point, I think I'm probably not going to accept Baylor, but the program sounds great :)  Have you been able to make a decision yet?

Not yet :( I'm waiting to hear back from Vandy re: financial aid, and Dr. Garrett is submitting paperwork to Baylor's graduate college to try and get a recruitment stipend for me.  I really plan on following the money, because i don't want loans hanging over my head during school.  (I also hope to start a family after graduating, so I hopefully won't be working full-time for too many years, and I need to consider that.)

I'm hoping to hear late this week or early next week, though :)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew why the required hours to graduate differs between some of the programs? I'm trying to decide between two Texas programs, there's one that only requires 51 hours total compared to one that requires 61 hours. Does the difference in hours matter at all if the programs are both certified and everything? Thanks so much!!

Also, do yall think it matters if you attend grad school farther away from where you want to eventually live (but still in the same state).

Maybe you could request the degree plan?  Perhaps the difference is the way they charge for practicum hours?

Speechhopeful09, I didn't apply there or know anyone who did, but I would suggest contacting them and asking if they have finished accepting students or about what is going on with your application. I did that when I didn't hear from Vanderbilt, and they didn't seem to have a problem with letting me know exactly what was going on. It sure beats sitting around and wondering! Good luck!!

I'm a little over 30 miles northeast of Callier Dallas myself. If we get in, we can look at the logistics of carpooling if you want. Good luck to both of us!
