I'm still waiting as well. No change in my status. Not sure what to make of that! I have a 3.8 undergrad; 3.9 in grad (Master's in Curriculum & Instruction/Elementary Ed from BC); waived GREs because they were required with my M.Ed; 4.0 in prereqs...4/5 were taken at NU. Hmmm. Maybe they just don't think I'm a good fit for their program? I'm going to be so disappointed if I don't get in! : (

I don't know, Ksaw90, the more I discover about this process the less I understand it! It's such a competitive process and I have no confidence that I'll be accepted! But thanks for the vote of confidence, we'll see what happens! Good luck to you! : )

When I called last week they said they'd be making decisions through April 15th. Don't lose hope yet! Plus it looks like NU sends out a lot of offers (134 last year) according to ASHA's EdFind and if the results search is any indication they haven't sent many out yet!

I heard through the grapevine that their current class is pretty large, around 60 students.  Sounds a little over enrolled to me, and I worry there might be "competition" for clinical placements?  My friend who is currently in her first year of their program loves the experience so far.  She didn't didn't hear anything re: an admissions offer or waitlist until ~April 8th last year.

Hi all. Thought I'd update you.... After the decision is posted in applyyourself, they mailed an email with details not included in the original letter. My decision has to be made there by 3/29. I'm assuming since they overfilled their incoming class last year that they're sending them in batches and seeing how many accept and decline. I will be declining their offer and will mail it in soon. Hopefully some of you will hear back soon.

Sorry I meant letter in the mail. You'll be getting a letter soon in th next couple of days. I actually live in Boston so I'm sure my letter got here really quickly. I'm not sure if all the letters have the same 3/29 deadline or if they're choosing a date a few weeks from the day they accepted you. I'm sure they will be pushing that deadline back as time goes by

I just received my letter in the mail today.  My decision was made/sent out on Monday and my deadline is April 1st, so I think the decision deadline depends on the date you were accepted!

 

Anyone know if there's an open house or anything for accepted students?

Should I assume I've been rejected if I haven't heard anything yet..? My N-You Portal still says that my decision is not ready but I feel like it's getting kind of late now to be accepted at this point.

I am in the same position, but I know someone said that everyone who is accepted gets 2 weeks to answer so I guess if they turn it down they will accept more since it seems like they haven't wait listed anyone either. I'm not sure but I'm keeping positive that this is how it's working.

I'm in the same boat. I wrote to them early on Friday basically asking if we haven't heard have we been placed on a wait list. I haven't heard anything. Hmmm. I KNOW they're really busy and there is (assumingly) a method to their madness but I do wish they'd just tell us if we're on a wait list. At least we'd know where we stand! : )

NU wrote back with a pretty standard response. They say they're still reviewing apps and we will know by April 15th at the latest.

Someone posted in the results section that they were accepted via the website today. If that person is reading this, did you receive an email prompting you to check, or did you just log on?

Agreed. I'm more stressed over this decision than I thought I would be, and not knowing where I stand with the rest of the schools I applied to is not easing my stress. I'm just ready to be settled and start planning for next year!

for sure. Especially because I have spring break next week and I'd like to be able to actually visit the schools I'm accepted to. So frustrating

Someone now posted that they were waitlisted.  My application still only says Complete.  I would just like to know too.

I was one of the people who just posted a wait-list! I just checked the website - there was no email. It was at the bottom right when you log in to apply yourself (don't click 'view application') I kept doing that. Its just on the bottom of the first page you see when you log in. I will most likely take my name off the wait-list because I'm leaning toward University of Illinois right now! Good luck to all of you!! I hope they let you know soon!

I really hope I don't have to wait until April 15th because I may just go insane. : ) Those of you who have been accepted: Did they include financial information with your acceptance? Is there an upcoming Open House? Thanks!

No financial info or open house info! I called financial aid the other day and they said it should come in the next week or two, but luckily for me I definitely have a scholarship coming my way for 25% off the tuition since I was an undergrad there and they have their "Double Husky" program for students who return to NU for their masters programs. Makes swallowing NU's tuition price tag a bit easier!

As for an open house, I'm meeting with Dr. O'Neill on Friday, I can ask her since I was wondering myself. I'm hoping they have one planned...I'm guessing it's later though since they're still accepting people at this time...

I thought I'd bump this thread back up after visiting NU last week.

A couple things I thought might be helpful for those of you who haven't heard back yet:

Don't lose hope! From the grad student I met with, I found out they definitely ended up with 60+ students starting last fall. They're doing the acceptances in waves I guess so that it doesn't happen again, hence the early deadline compared to the other programs in Boston. Usually it's closer to 35-40 and they're going for that range this year.

Also, if any of you are like me and need the 25 observation hours you have a couple options. You could do them on your own (preferred, the clinic had a form you have filled out by the SLP you shadow) or if you're in the Boston area prior to September you can do them in the clinic at NU since it's open all summer. From what I was told, if you do it in NU's clinic you most likely will have to do write-ups on what you observed so it entails a bit more work. Additionally, you could also get like 5 hours if you don't need many from a class that we all have to take in the fall.

After being waitlisted at Emerson it looks like I will be a "Double Husky". Good luck to all of you who haven't heard anything yet!

I thought I'd share this info:  I emailed the grad admissions office asking when they would be notifying people if they received scholarships and it will be only AFTER April 15th when you commit to the school. I'm not willing to wait that long...I'll be declining my acceptance to NU. Hopefully this helps someone else out!

Gingersnap18: I was wondering how NU was handling their financial awards since they're apparently reviewing the apps in batches. I guess the only thing they could do was hold financial info until the cohort has been set...but...I think they risk losing students to other schools (like you!) How can you make an informed decision when you don't have all of the information? Good luck with your decision!
