Due to finances, I was not able to submit most of my PhD applications until a couple of weeks before the deadline. Now that I am 0/4 and still have not heard from 3 programs, I am wondering if applying so late is also a factor...

I doubt it's a factor. Most schools have an application deadline, and then begin organizing files a few weeks later. I submitted Riverside, Santa Cruz, and Irvine all on the day they were due, or the day before they were due.

Unless the program specifies rolling deadlines, I truly doubt it.

Seconded. When I applied last year, I submitted some right at the edge of the deadline and others ahead of time, and I saw no pattern either way in acceptances/rejections. Also, KenAnderson, you mention that you were not able to submit until a couple of weeks before the deadline? That's not even cutting it close.

Nope. I turned every single one of my applications in at the last possible minute, and it didn't seem to affect me either way.

Same here. I turned in most my applications either the day of or the day before the deadline.

I turned in each and every one of my applications on the due date, all 16. Not because I am a procrastinator, mind you, but because I work on things up until the last second even if they seem done way before. I constantly read over things, etc.

Ok fine yes I am a procrastinator.

That's also me.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this world. :')

You are among friends, here (and, you know, fellow procrastinators...  ^_^ )

Anyway, I submitted all of my applications the day before they were due (January 15th for 3/4 apps) and heard back from all four between Feb 18th and 22nd. So I don't think it matters much. Especially since you submitted yours rather early, KenAnderson.

I am proud to say that I submitted each of my applications bare minutes before the deadline, in both my application seasons. On three occasions I even submitted them an hour or so after the deadline.

No, I don't think it matters.
