KenAnderson Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Due to finances, I was not able to submit most of my PhD applications until a couple of weeks before the deadline. Now that I am 0/4 and still have not heard from 3 programs, I am wondering if applying so late is also a factor...
sebastiansteddy Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I doubt it's a factor. Most schools have an application deadline, and then begin organizing files a few weeks later. I submitted Riverside, Santa Cruz, and Irvine all on the day they were due, or the day before they were due.
ComeBackZinc Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Unless the program specifies rolling deadlines, I truly doubt it.
pinkrobot Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Unless the program specifies rolling deadlines, I truly doubt it. Seconded. When I applied last year, I submitted some right at the edge of the deadline and others ahead of time, and I saw no pattern either way in acceptances/rejections. Also, KenAnderson, you mention that you were not able to submit until a couple of weeks before the deadline? That's not even cutting it close.
dazedandbemused Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 That's not even cutting it close. Word. Some of mine were, literally, at the the eleventh hour. asleepawake 1
bdon19 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Nope. I turned every single one of my applications in at the last possible minute, and it didn't seem to affect me either way.
dmmar Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Same here. I turned in most my applications either the day of or the day before the deadline.
NowMoreSerious Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I turned in each and every one of my applications on the due date, all 16. Not because I am a procrastinator, mind you, but because I work on things up until the last second even if they seem done way before. I constantly read over things, etc.Ok fine yes I am a procrastinator.

You are among friends, here (and, you know, fellow procrastinators... ) Anyway, I submitted all of my applications the day before they were due (January 15th for 3/4 apps) and heard back from all four between Feb 18th and 22nd. So I don't think it matters much. Especially since you submitted yours rather early, KenAnderson. Edited March 6, 2013 by courtc8891 yellow.wallpaper 1
Swagato Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) I am proud to say that I submitted each of my applications bare minutes before the deadline, in both my application seasons. On three occasions I even submitted them an hour or so after the deadline. No, I don't think it matters. Edited March 6, 2013 by Swagato
