LMac Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I know those of us going directly from undergrad to grad may be finishing up classes over the summer, but what about the rest of you? Are you giving yourself a break before your program starts? Traveling? Prepping for classes?
6tZSoKE3FTnq Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I am trying to find a summer internship at a biotech in my hometown. I want to save up some $$. LMac 1
pears Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 hopefully working for the USFS or BLM as an archaeology field tech in some cool, beautiful, wild place! whatever's left after taxes and expenses is going right to tuition.
flyingjellyfish Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Traveling New Zealand to visit family and Thailand to visit friends. Super excited for a long vacation between leaving work and starting school. Using air miles for the NZ flight and my tax refund for Thailand, so should work out ok!
Cookie Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I'm proofing my new profs grant, learning background material for research, and prepping nsf/dod/doe fellowship applications. Applied to:UT, WashU. Notre Dame. UWashington.
drpepper711 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 working for two months as RA then hoping to work as intern in field related to my discipline.
tarrman Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Hoping to do another internship at Lincoln Lab, but they are so slow in correspondence!
jcperez Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I will keep working as lab instructor at my local university until June. Afterwards, I will go to France for three weeks to visit my dad, who is working on his own PhD thesis. I will return around mid-July, and spend my last month at home studying some much-needed course material (need to strengthen quantum and solid state physics background!), reading papers, wrapping up some volunteer projects I have been working on, and preparing everything to move to my new school .
khaled Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Until the end of May: I'm teaching some labs at my home university (the first time I teach, and I like teaching so far) Working with some professors on their research projects at my home university (not very interesting projects, but i'm being exposed to different stuff) planning to go to the UK for a visit and to Singapore for a conference from June until Fall 2013: I'll just enjoy my time and chill !
Ohm Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Working at my company till a week before I leave It's pretty damn boring to sit at home doing nothing and I'll be anyway travelling to Switzerland on my way to the uni
abeilles Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 extremely jealous of those who get to travel! I'm finishing up my master's (feeling pretty checked out at this point) and sticking it out at my full-time research job until at least july... then likely hanging out at my significant others' parents' house for a couple of weeks. I'm anxious to know where I'll be moving!
RandiZ Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Teaching. Moving. Short range travel. Reading up for the fall. If I'm lucky, some time in the hammock staring at my eyelids.
Biostat_Assistant_Prof Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I'm finishing up undergrad, and with a hell of a semester too, with 3 upper level Biology courses and 2 upper level math courses... After finals end, I plan on literally enjoying every waking, relaxing second between mid-May to late August. Before I move in early August, I plan on cherishing [what could be] the last few months I ever have living near my parents and brother... I'll take a few trips to visit friends, take a big family vacation with parents and brother, and literally just enjoy not having any real responsibilities for the last time in my life... Lucky for me I have money saved up to allow me to do so, though I also have the ability to work as a pool/lake party DJ if I want to make a little cash... All I have to do is make it thru the next 6.5 weeks to finals...
