waitingandwaiting Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Anyone still waiting from these schools? Any idea on what I should expect? I'm guessing reject from Michigan and probable rejects from Minnesota, Davis, and Rochester.
ssk2 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm still waiting to hear back from UMich. It has been mentioned a couple of times by people who've asked that they'll be sending out their decisions next week (although I don't see how it can be any later really).
tkmkt Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm still waiting for PhD application result from Michigan.
waitingandwaiting Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 I've applied to PhD programs. Best of luck to those who are waiting!
rustledjimmies Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I applied to Michigan's MSCS program... Still waiting to hear back, but at this point I've already decided on another school so I guess I'm just waiting to see what happens now honestly, Michigan was so on the ball about recruiting me to apply to their programs (I received more propaganda from them than from any other school), I'm frankly surprised that they're the last ones I'm going to hear back from.
ssk2 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 It'd be worth mentioning to them once they do give decisions out that it's really not in their best interest to leave it so late! I'm planning on doing the same.
ab2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 (edited) If it's any comfort, I'm also waiting to hear back from multiple schools: Michigan, Penn, Cornell, and Brown. It's tough. I did see that on the survey that someone indicated that 1,300+ people applied to Michigan's CSE grad program. I feel like I have no chance at Cornell anymore, though... waitingandwaiting Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Looks like there are some PhD updates from Michigan and Northwestern on the gradcafe results section. I'm still anxiously waiting though.
ab2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Update on Michigan: They are still reviewing MS CS applications but they are slowly releasing decisions in the next 2 weeks. waitingandwaiting 1
ssk2 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Really? That's almost too late to consider them seriously. What a waste of an application fee! Edited April 2, 2013 by ssk2 waitingandwaiting 1
ab2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Tell me about it. I still have yet to hear back from 4 other schools...
Mathúin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Still waiting on Boston University, anyone hear from them? So many have yet to get back to me, all PhD, waitingandwaiting 1
ssk2 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) ab2013 - Have you tried contacting your other schools? Cornell is pretty good at responding to messages. Brown too. Edited April 2, 2013 by ssk2
ab2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Will they answer questions on the status of individual applications?
ab2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Brown hasn't replied yet. Cornell gave me a templated/cut-and-paste reply saying that they would be done by the end of the week. Helpful ... considering the end of the week is tomorrow...
ab2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Of course they sent me a cut-and-paste response.... Got rejected ...
ssk2 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Commiserations dude. Have you heard back from UMich yet? You should have a great chance there no?
ab2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I have no idea. I haven't been admitted yet. Most of my profs have said that I have a very good chance (one said "95% chance" ... another said that he "would be surprised to see Michigan reject me" ... One told me that my situation was dicey, so... I honestly don't see Penn admitting me, and I'm pretty sure I won't go to Brown if they admit me because they're kinda expensive.
waitingandwaiting Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 ab2013, can I ask what your approximate profile is? Michigan seems to be tougher than what I had even expected...
ab2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 It's somewhere on the forum. I made a chance post. I go to UMich as an undergrad ... have a 3.65 overall gpa and a 3.4 major gpa. waitingandwaiting 1
dark_matter Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I also have not heard back from Michigan about the PhD program. I've already accepted at Wisconsin-Madison (with funding), but it's surprising they haven't let me know what's going on. waitingandwaiting 1
ab2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I still haven't gotten results yet. But at this point I've almost given up all hope on Michigan. As an undergrad, it's almost awkward to step into the computer science building here...
