Riverside975 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Hi guys! I was on the wait list. Today I received a letter that my application was rejected. They also asked whether I would consider to study without funding. Here is the text: "Thank you for your interest in the Economics Department at the University of California Riverside. The Graduate Admissions Committee is arriving to its final decisions. We reviewed your application and unfortunately we could not admit you with fellowship to our PhD program in Economics. The applicant pool was large and extremely strong this year, and many applicants have excellent credentials. When you applied, you indicated that you did not want to be considered without financial aid. We might have one or two more openings for unfunded graduate students. If you would like to be considered in the pool of applicants to these possible positions, please let us know by replying to this email and we will follow up with more details." Does anyone know that this mean? Does it mean that they provide no funding at all so i would have to pay tuition + cost of living. Or does it mean that they don't provide any fellowships but I wouldn't have to pay tuition. P.S. Of course I asked them, but i will get a response in like 10 hours, and i can't wait that long =))))
sacklunch Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 More likely it means zero funding, as in you would pay tuition, cost of living, the whole deal.
Riverside975 Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Yes, you were right. I got the response - it means you have to pay for everything but can get a TA and blah-blah-blah.
misskira Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Yes, you were right. I got the response - it means you have to pay for everything but can get a TA and blah-blah-blah. That is essentially my offer... I thought I would have to refuse at first, but there are actually quite a few TA spots for me to apply for. So I'm applying and will see what happens. My advisor said in 5 years, no one has had to leave for lack of funding. I won't take loans out period. I can also defer my acceptance for a year and be considered with the other applicants for funding next year.
Riverside975 Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 I can also defer my acceptance for a year and be considered with the other applicants for funding next year. I thought about reapplying. What do you mean by "defer my acceptance"? I will have to submit all the documents, transcripts, recommendations again, right? Or did i miss something?

My school said if I would like to I can defer my admission for one year to be considered for funding with the Fall 2014 applicants. I would be on the accepted list for 2014 without resubmitting my materials. Some schools don't allow this option though. Riverside975 and joosemoore 2

VioletAyame Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Hey Friends, Do you guys possibly know when is deadline for sending acceptance letters from UCR in engineering? I have been waiting since a couple of month ago, still I am waiting for the result! Would you please help me with this? Thanks I think you should contact them directly (call/email, although I heard that call usually yields better result). Are you applying for a Masters or a PhD? Have you checked the result page to see if people have posted results from the same program yet? And when you say acceptance letter, do you mean you're already accepted and are noe just waiting for the official letter? Each department does things differently, even in the same school, so people in Econs wouldn't be able to tell you much.
