GRE Score Sanity Check for MSCS/Engineering Programs

I just took the GRE today and have an unofficial score of 167V/163Q. The verbal is great but I was expecting a higher score on the quantitative portion. I understand other parts of the application are very important (SOP, LOR) but, all else equal, would it be worth retaking the GRE to improve the quantitative score?

I am aiming for top MSCS programs like Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and CMU.

Thanks,

Probably not, 167 is good enough. LOR's are more important...

I'm sorry for not being able to help, but am wondering if you can tell me about MSCS at MIT or Berkley? I can't seem to find information about their master's programs.

I'm sorry to hijack your thread monmon_4 :) I have a similar question. I am applying for the Stanford MSCS and my GRE score is 164Q / 162V. I believe the rest of my application is strong (at least as strong as it is going to be, there's nothing I can do to improve it more at this point) so I am curious if it is worth it to retake the GRE in hopes of improving the quantitative score? I didn't prepare for the Q. section in my first time, so it seems I could improve it a little bit if I put some effort.

They say they want scores in the 90th percentile. Both my Q and V are in the 89th. Is that good enough?

Hi all,

I'm currently in Stanford's MSCS, and I know how stressful applying can be! Fortunately, I can provide some encouraging numbers. I had a 162V,163Q, so you guys definitely have a chance. I will say that the math here is very challenging, buyer beware.

Gluck!

Those GRE scores seem good enough for top universities.

I know that MIT does not have a terminal MS. You apply to the PhD program and do your MS along the way.

I got 165Q my first time. I retook it and got a 170Q. I would retake it if I were you. At the level of Stanford admissions, I would want to maximize my profile in any way possible. I too, applied there for MSCS.

If you have the money and time, yeah.

But I think there is much better things to do to boost your application like taking more time to write your SoP or working on a publication.
