I applied for Chemistry and Biophysics. I got rejected by Chemistry. Next week, I am flying there for an interview with the Biophysics department.

Can't see the graduate application status of Wisconsnin. It just says "An error occurred loading this content." Anyone same or similar?

I just checked for ya. It has the same notification for me. I wouldn't read too much into it.

For those of you accepted into CU Boulder, what division did you apply for?

Did you already get an official admission letter? I was invited for an interview for biochemistry.

Well, I wasn't accepted, but they told me that the pchem committee hadn't reviewed all of the applications yet. So, I just wanted to get a feel for how far along other divisions are.

I'm sorry, I quoted the wrong post. I was addressing the students who were admitted for chemistry, but I guess the biochemistry program may have different procedures (i.e. interview for admission)

I was accepted into the CU Boulder chemistry program directly, with no interview. I applied for Organic.

Yup. I have friends who were told decisions were all made, but in response to my inquiry a few days ago, I got this:

"Our admissions committee is still in the process of reviewing a significant portion of applications, including yours. While we hope that you will have a final decision soon, it may be a few more weeks before all of our applicants receive their decisions."

Is it from UCSD?

No, it's from MIT, sorry about the confusion.

You're fine. I am actually not an applicant this year, I am doing my first year at the U of U :) There has been rumors that the Chem Department is raising the grad student stipend this year so I thought it would be a good idea to ask around here if anyone is applying to the U. The Biological Chemistry Program (BCP) at the U is actually a pretty sweet deal, at least it is a much better deal than the Chem Department (better pay, easier classes, etc.), but of course it is harder to get in. Good luck! Hope you will enjoy your visit to this beautiful city!

From what I have heard so far, Boulder has one of the best chem program in the country. It is getting harder and harder to get admitted to Boulder each year, they are on par with schools like UCB, UNC, etc. Good luck!

I actually just had my visit this weekend and FREAKIN LOVED the area and program! Your guys' facilities and faculty are amazing and I found out I was accepted on Wednesday.  So needless to say I am extremely excited and I think there is a very high chance of me attending U of U next fall. I want to go to all the visitation weekends so I can make a well informed decision but I have been to all the other campuses already and am pretty familiar with the schools.  The only one on par with Utah's environmental beauty is Santa Cruz sbut we will see what happens haha.

I'm in the same boat with no acceptances, you're not alone! By any chance, did they say how soon? I'd imagine schools in the northeast are all being screwed up by this weather we're having.

Update: Got the official Website notification today.  Seems that they've been having a bunch of snow trouble, so they've been delayed.  Official letter to follow in a few days.

Hey everybody,

I just thought I'd let everyone here know, but Scripps CA and FL are only going to be accepting ~10% of all applicants selected for "interviews" this year. In previous years they have accepeted closer to 90% of applicants invited out for interviews. There have been severe budget cuts at both institutions this year and this is the reason for the stringent acceptance requirements. If you ask they will probably deny it, but this is the case. I know because I go to TSRI and am on the graduate student recruiting committee. I asked them why thet wouldn't tell the recruits this but they didn't want to give TSRI a bad name, but frankly that isn't fair to the recruits. Believe me, we are disappointed with this as graduate students, but there is not that can be done if the budget is not there. You may want to set your sights on other graduate programs if you were invited out to visit TSRI this week or in 2 weeks. I

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Just wondering if you have any sort of proof or what not.  Not saying you're not telling the truth, just curious.

It seems like there are other schools with monetary problems, but 10% for interview is a small amount. Do you know how many ppl have been invited for interview? Rejecting students with that reason is understandable, inviting so many for interview is also understandable because they want to maximize the chances of getting the best students. Does this have to do with cutting NSF ?

Have to admit, the previous post by MOchemist123 has a point, it is unbelievably sm amt of students to admit, considering they have already given out offers to ppl w/o interviewing.

This actually isn't the first I heard of this. One of my profs. at my undergrad institution last year told me Scripps was having budget cuts and something like this could happen.
