No Rejection forum?

I'm just curious.. where do people post about their rejections?

 

Or are folks just sort of expected to slink off into the night and not talk about it?

 

I mean, statistically aren't there more people who are rejected than accepted for many schools?

I think there are threads for people to write/vent/cry/complain/worry about their rejections. They pop up as individual threads, not as an entire forum dedicated to this though!

But it would list all the scores and GPA's and everything that everyone keeps asking "Is this good enough?" wouldn't it? We see admits, but rejections are obscured and not well represented. As a data point it seems like something worth persuing.

 

And wouldnt the community make the forum more about "Plan B" scenarios, keeping spirits up, and helping people get past being depressed?

 

Since more people get rejected than accepted.. wouldn't that be for the greater good?

Yeah, maybe it would also be a place for other appliciants to learn the mistakes of others. I see potential in this.

I mean, getting people to -admit- they emailed the adcom contact several times asking if they had a decision yet (seriously, how can people not see that as a big no-no?) will be difficult, but any information provided would benefit people on the next round.

 

We always talk about what it took to get in, but never what it took to get "out." Knowing what really results in being out will benefit people and their expectations.

 

Plus we could force all those "EMERGENCY: What are my chances?!?!?!" posts to read and post over there.

Come to think of it.. I'm entirely ok with creating a "Rejected" forum and just moving all the new "What are my chances?" and "Is this GRE high enough?" questions to that forum by default.

Three things:

1) It would NOT be appropriate to have "What are my chances?" posts under a Rejection forum because there's no way to know whether or not someone would be rejected.

2) There are plenty of places where you can find the stats of people that have been rejected. Usually in the application thread for whichever discipline and year you're interested in.

2a) That data is also on the results survey and thus readily accessible. Far more people record their results, whether admit, wait list, or rejection, there than post on the forums.

2b) There is lots of evidence that the statistical data is meaningless anyway.

3) People already post about their contacts with departmental staff about application status in the field-specific threads and in "Waiting It Out".

 

As far as I can tell, what you want is to further subdivide existing conversations but not in what will be a very meaningful way to most.

Doesn't this exist already in the Results section? People report acceptance, wait list, rejections and make comments? Not many give their stats though.
