When Should We Expect to Hear Back?

Two of my three deadlines were yesterday, but I've had all my materials in since early December.

 

Does anyone who has been through this process before have any insight? Given a January 15 deadline, how long does it normally take schools to decide on when to send out interview notifications, or even acceptances? (Or even rejections...)

 

When are/were your deadlines? Have you heard anything yet?

I think a good approximation could be made for first round offers by looking at past gradcafe acceptance dates. But for a Jan 15th deadline I would easily say you won't see anything until February at the earliest.

I've been using the results page as part of my own mental timeline, but there aren't a whole lot of results posted for my schools, and especially not for the programs within them. It's a bummer, because it is such a great reference for so many other programs and schools.

Your best bet would be to call the programs and ask.

I would also say use the results search for previous years, but take it with a grain of salt. I heard back from two programs over a month earlier than I was expecting to - it seems that acceptances/interviews are being sent out a bit earlier this year.

 

Some schools have turnaround times for applications of less than a week, and others seem to take more than 2 months. On average I think it takes at least a month though, so don't expect anything back until February (and certainly don't panic until March, or if you see a ton of acceptances show up on results search in the span of a couple of days!)

I also think PhD students will hear first, since they need to figure out funding as well(and their applications are due earlier). From the previous years, applicants obtaining a MS in the same program as me hear back mid-February, at the earliest. I'm going to try to stop checking my email/gradcafe so often. I will probably start calling programs in March.

Is there an interview component? My deadline was the 15th as well, I expect* to hear something by mid to late February since the interviews are in early March. Good luck!

I just heard back today (crazy considering I finished my app in Dec) and I got an invitation to Waterloo today.
