Hi,

I'm looking for tips on where to take online microeconomics and macroeconomics classes that aren't ridiculously expensive. I'm looking because I've applied to master's in international relations programs and (assuming I get in) will need to take both before August.

I live in DC and the community college here doesn't offer any online classes, so I'm looking at paying out-of-state tuition anywhere else.

So far I haven't found anything less than about $800 per course ($200+ per credit hour for 3 credits)

I would be open to an in-person class in the DC area, such as through Graduate School USA (which is a lot cheaper),  but so far haven't found any that are on weekends, which is the only thing that would fit with my schedule.

I've missed the deadline for SAIS's combined micro/macro econ online economics course (which is still expensive anyway).

Any suggestions? I know there must be other people out there in the DC area who have run into this same question!  Thanks!

I have to get a grade for sure, but am confused about whether I actually would need to show credits or not. Does anybody know if this is the case, for programs like Georgetown MSFS or SAIS MA?

I'm trying to figure out if Straighterline would do the trick.

 Hello,

First of all I hope you got into all the schools you wanted :) I was wondering whether you learned more about the topic of studying economics . I am also in a similar situation and would need to complete 2 courses in econ. before starting my studies at SFS. Could you please share your experiences? Which course did you end up taking? Were you able to find any other reasonably priced economics courses online? How was your experience? I would be super happy if you could enlighten me about this.

I would highly recommend UCLA's online macro & micro classes. They are around 600 dollars each. The issue is that they fill up pretty quickly so I highly recommend that you sign up as quickly as possible.

If UCLA's classes are filled up, I would recommend UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley's class is around 975 though...

Thanks so much for this. I checked it out and it seems they offer everything I need:) I just could not find any information on whether they provide letter grades at the end of the course, or whether it is based on pass/ fail system. When I tried to enroll at an econ. course, it automatically wrote "not for credit" but I have no idea what this means in terms of grading. If you have any more information about it and if you could share it I would be ever thankful.

Just another option. UT Austin offers macro and micro econ courses as a self-paced program. The tuition was $550 last time I checked and it's a regular 3 credit course. You can sign up for the courses any time.

that's the link for the microecon course listing.
