  1. Hi! I also applied to SciPo & LSE dual programme. I have not heard anything back so I gave up on it since I had to tell my other schools whether or not if I am going or not xD. Congrats on your acceptance! Good luck on the Dual programme!!
  2. Dpgu, you've chosen LSE? Awesome! Let's hang out in the UK . Btw, great response up there
  3. I just spent my whole weekend reading on how UK students think American students are a joke, particularly Oxford students to Harvard students. Makes me almost regret choosing a UK school over an American school. For future reference, avoid TSR.
  4. @HKSai Yes. I've been taking classes for a risk management certificate out of NYU. I am about 5 classes from finishing and the school that I am rejecting kept on sending me asking me was I sure that I will not be attending NYU in the Fall. The school that I will be attending in the Fall is NOT NYU. Just to clarify
  5. I have already made my choice for graduate school. In terms of prestige, ranking and job prospects, my choice is a lot higher ranked than my other schools. Not only that but it is spreaded out a lot longer so they had time to drill career and thesis skills onto you. Not only that but my current choice provides more opportunities for me. All schools that I applied to gave me almost full funding so my decision is not based on funding. The issue is that the other schools are way more friendly. Some of them have already invited me over for mixers & to meet my future cohorts & students. They even checked in to see if I were happy. And they also asked me like 10x, are you sure you want to leave NYU for us. I am pretty firm in my decision but that doesn't mean I don't feel bad for saying, Thanks but no thanks. Is anyone else feeling guilt over turning down schools?
  6. My friends are all in either medical school, law school, or getting a masters in engineering...so I am sort of glad that they will be using my flat as a homebase in the UK. ****I am in NYC and most of my friends are all over the world currently****** The ones that are out in the "real world", I talk to them every day on fb so it isn't as bad. Goddamn PsychD, you can not catch a break.
  7. I think you will have a great chance if you take some post-bac classes in IR and show that you care and that this isn't a midlife crisis or you are bored with your job. Do some volunteering in that area too such as political rallies. You need things to show that you are serious about this change. I am doing the business route in UCL. The only reason why I got in, from a political science background, is because I've been taking finance classes for the last 2 years. It also helps that I've been running a blog on business too. If you show that you are taking this seriously and this isn't a whim, you'll get in.
  8. Hello Angie, I heard back from Emile Bout Scholarship today. I got it but unfortunately, I will be turning it down for UCL. Hopefully you got it
  9. Well, it depends on what and where you want to do/live for the rest of your life. From what I've gathered from HR managers, the first 2 years of employment in your career is dominant where you went to school. After these two years pass, it doesn't really matter. This is not to say that if you have gone to an ivy league school though! That brand value will be carried with you for the rest of your life because of the preconceived ideas about that institution. I would definitely go with France if you want to learn French. I think SciencePo forces you to learn a new language during your first year. Immersion is the best way to learn English. Parisians are snobs, they won't let you speak English with them so you will be forced to learn as long as you don't stick around in the expat packs. I thought SciencePo makes all of their students do an internship module? You can probably OD on that module if you like. Well, foreign policy requires that you learn French at the minimum so I would go with France to be honest...even though I dislike the Parisians.
  10. Aww, I am sorry Hcmg. Just apply next year! Good luck! We will be here for you next year . Anyone want to meet up if some of us end up in the UK? I really don't want to be alone there...like a dog especially since I can't adopt or foster an animal. P.S. It is a huge dream of mine to wear the black Sith robe and march down the long fancy halls while blasting the Imperial March for all to hear. Long live that dream
  11. Ty Angie . Yup, I applied. I didn't hear back from Emile Boutmy Scholarship yet. I talked to the admissions' director, we are supposed to hear back from them late April. But from previous forum threads, most people heard back late April to early May and I need to respond back by the end of April for the others. Yea... I am not waiting that long. Such a shame, I really do like SciencePo's world ranking and their modules but their administration issue is a total turn-off for me. I also work with a lot of French (predominantly Parisians) people and I do NOT have a very pleasant experience with them so I do not think my personality and their personality will mesh all that well. Besides, I think this SciencePo programme is only one year and I prefer two years. I heard great things about UCL - IMESS programme and how they are very big on job placement & internships, so I am leaning pretty heavy towards UCL - IMESS.
  12. Hcmg & Mych, I just got my acceptance to SciencePo at 5:41 AM EST. So keep a look out for that email! I think it should arrive by the end of this week . No word on the dual programmes though. @thepool I think you should apply anyway. If you have strong LoRs, distinctive and/or unusual work history and a really good SoP, I think you have strong chance of getting pass even if your GPA is not at the required place. GPA isn't a make-it-or-break it situation alone. Word of caution on SciencePo, don't apply after December or you are going to have a VERY long wait. SciencePo does everything in cycles.
  13. I don't eat when I am stressed. I lost like 15 lbs this application cycle. Let's not talk about how much I lost during my break up or studying for the LSATs. When I get stressed or depressed, all I eat is soup.
  14. O - O Uh PsycD, I think you should like stop picking mates and let your friends do it... either that or run from Modor as fast as you can and don't look back. Also, please tell us what state you are from. We will be sure to avoid it like the plague. Things worse than getting rejected : Laying on top of a guy after you two have just done it and he says and I quote, "You are alright in bed". I am so sorry that I'm not a whore like the girls you've dated and I haven't slept with 50+ men and women in the span of 2 years, you sociopath.
  15. I heard back nothing. I assumed they will tell you in April. SciencePo's administration is known for taking forever to do its admissions especially if you apply in the second round.
  16. LSE! LSE! LSE! Sage advice from family and friends? That is a facetious statement right? I kid. I told my friends I am going to grad school abroad. Their reply was : OoO WE ARE NOW GOING TO VISIT YOU SO WE CAN SLEEP WITH ALL OF THE HOT MEN IN EUROPE. = _ =; Nice to know you'll visit me because you want to sleep with hot men, not because you miss me. Family's reply : Oh good, we now have vacation plans for the next 2 years. After you finish this, go to UPenn for law school and get a real degree. You should. We've already missed out on the Summer Internships . Starting June, applications are open for internships. UCL will require that I take a language course for one year and then I'll be stuck learning Russian in Russia . I don't think LSE makes you do that since it is only one year. I think you are allowed to take some classes. I don't know. You should ask the programme director. I am going to ask if I can take some math courses for auditing and as non-matriculating student.
  17. Unagi, I took it and I submitted it to all of my schools. None of the schools that I applied to in Europe required that I took it but I took it anyway since I needed it for the US schools that I applied to. I don't know if it had a lasting impact on my acceptances or not. I do have an almost a 100% in all of my acceptances since I am waiting on my last two - dual programmes. If you do bad on the GREs, don't submit . If you do well, submit. It depends on what programme you are applying to and whether or not if you have a lot of quantitiative background or not.
  18. Aww, I am so sorry gr8pumpkin. I am going to go with the old-age advice. Do not put down anything that makes you seem over-qualified for any position that you want to apply to . You should still be excited though! Show Northeastern what a great student they missed out on!
  19. I would go with the program that has the best placement to be honest.
  20. You should totally go to LSE and I'll go to UCL. We can meet at some random pub near the Thames and speak in our funny American accent. I am legit petrified of going abroad right now . No friends and no family and it would be nice to know at least one person there, even if I did meet that person on the interwebz. Legitimately, it is a very long time. I think they subconsciously set it up so you will do an internship and in that way, it will boost your credentials if you choose to apply for a PhD or if you want a job. I had a classmate, who I have lost contact with, who went to LSE for his MA in Economics (1 year). He came back to the States because he couldn't find a job in London. I don't know if he did any internships there though. I also don't know what he does for a living now either. I am currently making an excel sheet with links to every IB & energy firms in the UK & Russia right now - where they are located, their requirements to getting an internship, application date for both Fall, Spring & Summer, etc; so that when I land in the UK, I will have an internship lined up and I won't go crazy. Anyone ever used Middlebury or Rosetta Stone to learn a new language? I want to learn some Russian before I go to the UK.
  21. Legitimately, I have no idea. The guy I went out with went to UCL for undergrad. I can call him up again and ask I supposed but I rather not. He is sort of a pretentious ass who believes he is better than everyone by virtue of the fact that he went to UCL as an undergrad...and that he is omfg hot. Sorry . I knew that that UK schooling system is very similar to the US. They have most of January off & they start way later than us. I do think the information you received is correct. This is why I applied for the 2 year programme for UCL - to get around this stupid requirement. I know that the MsC inside the UK gives you a 4 month free period to write your thesis. I would use that four months to my advantage - get an internship and do that in the morning while at night, do your dissertation.
