  1. I asked the guy that I used to date for this information. He is a graduate out of the UoL system - UCL so he understands the system a lot better than I ever would. If you are part of the UoL system, you can use any professor from KCL, UCL and Imperial College London. Unfortunately, LSE is not part of this system so LSE students are not allowed to participate in the UoL system for professors and other usages. Imperial College London has left the UoL system.
  2. I already rejected all offers. I'm choosing UCL. UCL's program has a business component to it (energy; and I've always wanted to work for Gazprom) and has a more versatile usage than SciencePo & KCL. I'm looking forward to one year in London & one year in Moscow. What about you Dpgu? ****Update***** So I went to SciencePo to withdraw my application, the admissions lady switched my apps to SciencePo : International Economic Policy, SciencePo & LSE : International Economic Policy & International Relations. I don't know if I should be annoyed or be happy that she was nice enough to do that so I still have a chance of getting into the dual programme. Long story short, I did not withdraw my application.
  3. Most likely. The issue is that I am averaging an A in the class already. And macroeconomics is like basic Algebra and graphs. It really isn't that heavy quantitative base tbh. She just wants a grade and I can't give them that yet. Bleugh, it is fine. It wasn't my top choice. I just didn't appreciate being lied to. I got into KCL & UCL political economy at the very least.
  4. Uh quite honestly, CUNY & SUNY does not have a great reputation out of state. So I think contrary to what people think and the sales pitch the professors give you how undergrad doesn't matter, I think undergrad status & graduate status matters. I had a friend who graduated out of Macaulay CUNY (4.0 in her major & regular GPA), high GRE scores, ultra-strong LoR, connections to people on adcomm, etc and she applied to Harvard PhD program for Shakespeare. She got rejected. According to her POI, they rejected her because she went to CUNY and they thought her GPA was a joke. Before this, the people on the adcomm & her POI were telling her that she was a "shoo-in". I don't know if she is lying though. I dated two guys who went to Ivy League Schools in Europe & in the US and they both spit on CUNY's name. Then again, it could be that they are obnoxious wankers.
  5. Hello HCMG, According to Kate, the advisor, she stated that the acceptance / rejection will be "forthcoming". I have no idea what that bloody means. Congrats DPGU!! Do you know which one are you leaning towards?
  6. Hello Alchyna, uh, freak out and curse the French people in my head for the next 30 minutes? On a more serious note, I told them to consider me for International Security. That is what I thought! But they were all, it is a suggestion and I asked them twice. I took microeconomics already but I couldn't find a school in NYC that had macroeconomics in January before I applied so I had to do the UC Berkeley Extension. I am also taking Financial Econometrics & I am taking a lot higher economic courses in NYU x - x. I asked the admissions officer to put me down for international security for the dual programme and for LSE : international relations. Hopefully, she will do this and I still have a chance. Thanks for the support. I am trying to see the good in this as of right now .
  7. I am so annoyed at SciencePo right now. When I first applied for the International Political Economy program, I asked them : Do I need macroeconomics to get in? Their reply : It is a suggestion but not mandatory. I do not like being lied to and now I have a feeling I will be rejected from the dual programmes This is today's email : As the Academic Advisor for the Master in International Economic Policy, I have evaluated your application (for your 2nd choice of program, the Dual degree evaluations are forthcoming) and find that you are a fantastic overall candidate. You would certainly be an asset to Sciences Po. However, you unfortunately do not seem to meet the pre-requisites in terms of content covered for admission to the International Economic Policy program as you are only covering the material now and we won't have the grades in time for admission. As such, you cannot be considered for admission to IEP, but we truly feel you would be a great addition to Sciences Po and PSIA, and would like to offer you the opportunity to choose another program for admission.
  8. According to what I've read, smaller departments will take a lot longer since they are waiting for more applicants. Good luck! And yes, you will receive an email telling you to check Portico for an update on your status. Here is a copy of my email : Title - Int MA Economy, State and Society: Politics and Security. Code - TMAESSSPAS01. Academic year - 2014/15. Mode of attendance - Full-time. Start date - 22/Sep/2014. This email is to inform you that there has been a change in the status of this application. You can log into UCL’s portal at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/portico to view your new application status. Please login using the email address *************** and password you used to complete your online application. You will also get the same if they review your application. So, I don't know if this is the rule of thumb or not. This time, they didn't tell me they were reviewing my application. It was just stuck in assessed mode.
  9. *shakesheadinshame* So I just heard back from UCL and I got in. My mom's reply : Where is that? My reply: It is in the UK Mom's reply : OH GOD, THERE ARE A LOT OF INDIAN PEOPLE THERE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE DON'T MARRY ONE OF THEM. I KNOW HOW PARTIAL YOU ARE TO THEM!!! *Background information : the last 2 guys I dated were Indian* My reply : = _ =; the 2nd year is in Russia too Mommy. Mom's reply : OH GOD, YOU ARE GOING TO MARRY A RUSSIAN MAFIA. PLEASE DON'T MARRY ONE OF THEM. I WILL DISOWN YOU!!!! WHY CAN'T YOU DATE A WHITE ENGLISHMAN?! 5 seconds later : I will buy you a flat in London. = _ =; I don't know how graduate school correlates to me getting hitch but okay.
  10. Grazie! Yes! I've been dreaming about going to that school for the last 6 months. Umm, I applied on 31.01.2014. I checked my portico today (25.03.2014) and I got in. So it took them 2 months? I got my decision via Portico. I've been stalking that website for the last 2 weeks. Seriously dpug, email them and be like, YO WHAT"S UP?! IT HAS BEEN 8 WEEKS. But I am sorry that you haven't heard back from them yet.
  11. I got into UCL - one year in London and one year in Moscow!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I got asked that question in every IB internship that I applied for : SAT score *dude, it has been 10 years, good luck with me remembering what I got*, GMAT scores *high 600s?*, and GRE scores.
  13. Oops, sorry I meant to write vegetables but I think I Mis-spelled it. Damn you autocorrect on iPhone.
  14. It is still a hell of a lot cheaper than the US schools or at least that is what I am telling myself. Granted, I didn't have to pay for a fee for my application so far, they haven't made anything off me. And the chance to study & work Abroad is saying a lot... Damn you UCL!!!!
  15. ...Honestly, in the UK, by the populace, we are seen as cash cows to their system. They think they have the most prestigious universities in the world and the only reason why we would go there is so that we can get the prestigious name. I get really upset whenever I read that link. Check out this link : http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2610838
  16. Join the club. I've been waiting since January. I go over to the studentroom and the UK students hear back in like 2 weeks max. International students get to wait like 8 weeks minimum. Da Faque. As much as I dislike the US educational system, at least we are fair. We give a deadline and we adhere to it and notify everyone at the same time - or at least the immediate rejections & acceptances.
  17. Bad news old chum, it just means that you are now in the "assessing stage" again and they are not reviewing it yet. When you are in the review stage, it will legit say "review" and they will send you that email. Life sucks huh? Omg, I am so sorry CarefreeWritingsonaWall. Good luck for next year!!! If you need any help, please send me an email! I will be more than happy to help in any way that I can.
  18. Hello, week long of hell. Here is to hoping we will be leaving purgatory soon.
  19. lolz It doesn't matter, as long as you guys can prove that you are related, it is a lot easier to get in. Legacy system : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legacy_preferences I've known idiots who have gotten into Ivies in undergrad just because their parents / siblings went to that institution. So just tell your sister that she will have a higher chance of getting in and that will make her happy
  20. To give a long story short, I messed up my senior year in college. Got a 2.0 in my last semester because I went through PTSD thanks to my ex-boyfriend and they were some business courses. I had to take courses at NYU SCPS to show that the last semester was a fluke and that it won't happen again. KCL reached out to me and told me that it was bc of my certificate courses at NYU that was the key factor in them accepting me, although, they were a bit reluctant to do so also because they were worried that I would not be willing to leave NYU for KCL. So personally, I think you should take it. It will show growth. I think NYU Poly sends those to everyone to be honest. I received one and I'm not an engineer. It doesn't hurt to apply though .
  21. Uh...I think it would make it easier for her to get in since that would make her a legacy? I am so confused. Thanks Spastic.
  22. HS grad : 75 lbs UG Grad : 105 (and it has been 3 years since I graduated). Currently : 110 but this is all from muscle. I lift a lot of weights and I do a lot of cardio. I eat very healthy every day. To maintain a thin frame, I work out about 3 - 5 times a week - cardio & weight training & ab work out. I also eat extremely healthy : a lot of salad, vegan, and lean meat (predominately white). No snacks & alcohol maybe once a week, if that much. No soda, no sweets, no ice cream, no candy...trust me, life is not worth living without sweets & alcohol. Oh yea, I also forgot to mention that I am 5'5.
  23. Congrats on your acceptance! When I check my inbox and I see something from the schools that I apply to, I think, OMFG TODAY IS THE DAY. ...Then it turns out it is a a new status notification, from "Assessed" to "Reviewed". Da Faque, you had my application for 3 months and it is rolling admissions, HOW CAN IT TAKE YOU 3 MONTHS TO TELL ME IF I HAVE GOTTEN IN OR NOT?!
  24. Hello, I would highly recommend you take up some classes so you can say that you weren't "mature" as an undergrad and now you are serious about your studies. This also shows that you are committed to learning. Employers do look down on it BUT it is better than nothing. Nevertheless, since it is slightly a bit more prestigious than those online courses like DeVry, I don't think employers will completely spit on it.
  25. I would highly recommend UCLA's online macro & micro classes. They are around 600 dollars each. The issue is that they fill up pretty quickly so I highly recommend that you sign up as quickly as possible. If UCLA's classes are filled up, I would recommend UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley's class is around 975 though...
