I'm applying to several schools for a PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering. This morning I received a phone call from the graduate school of engineering asking if I had any questions about the application process etc.

I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to whether this is a precursor to an application decision?

It seems for this field that their is not much information and a long wait between finishing the application and hearing word.

Thank you.

That's strange, had you completed your application? Did you ask anything? Such as,"how long will it take for a decision to be available?" :D

My application has been complete since December.

I did ask some questions such as picking an advisor etc. They also let me know that decisions should be sent out for George Washington either today or next week.

Hopefully they'll start sending out letters/emails to others as well.

I received a text message from the director of one of the programs I applied to--has anyone else ever had this happen?

That's pretty weird, wonder why they use a text message rather than some other method.

Text message seems a little informal, although I would be happy for any positive contact!

This was in addition to a voicemail followed by a formal acceptance letter. Needless to say I am still a little shocked.

Wow! I had no idea that GWU sends the decisions next week. I also applied to the MAE program at GWU for PhD. Decisions will be for PhD, right? Not for MSc.?

Yup GWU for PhD MAE I hope what she told me is correct. It seems like such a long wait for most schools.
