shanks.k Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I'm applying to several schools for a PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering. This morning I received a phone call from the graduate school of engineering asking if I had any questions about the application process etc. I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to whether this is a precursor to an application decision? It seems for this field that their is not much information and a long wait between finishing the application and hearing word. Thank you.
iphi Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 That's strange, had you completed your application? Did you ask anything? Such as,"how long will it take for a decision to be available?"
shanks.k Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 My application has been complete since December. I did ask some questions such as picking an advisor etc. They also let me know that decisions should be sent out for George Washington either today or next week. Hopefully they'll start sending out letters/emails to others as well.
rbroni88 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I received a text message from the director of one of the programs I applied to--has anyone else ever had this happen?
shanks.k Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 That's pretty weird, wonder why they use a text message rather than some other method.
starofdawn Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Text message seems a little informal, although I would be happy for any positive contact!
EngineerGrad Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I received a text message from my POI too hehe. It was quite surprising. It also had a smiley face... I swear!
rbroni88 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 That's pretty weird, wonder why they use a text message rather than some other method. This was in addition to a voicemail followed by a formal acceptance letter. Needless to say I am still a little shocked.

Decisions will be for PhD, right? Not for MSc.?
shanks.k Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Yup GWU for PhD MAE I hope what she told me is correct. It seems like such a long wait for most schools.
