APryhod Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Does anyone else get completely paranoid when they receive an email of acceptance? I've gotten acceptance from all the schools I applied to, each sent an email of congratulations from the graduate coordinators first, before my status was changed and before the official letter. Never the less, I still become unbelievably paranoid (until the status changes) that it's some sick joke by some bored student, or someone trying to get me to decline the other offers to "take out the competition". Have I just gone crazy, or is this a legitimate fear suffered by other applicants? And if so, why? Is it fear of rejection and bullying, or do we (or just I) not think I"m good enough to have gotten accepted?
dhg12 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I've never thought that anything deliberately malicious was going on, I think that is very much a stretch. However I was paranoid when I saw a status change before an official acceptance, I assumed it was a computer glitch
the_sheath Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I got one of my acceptances at midnight like a week after first wave acceptances started to get posted. Like, what the hell? I held on to the thought that it was a glitch until I got my funding letter, and even now I'm skeptical. I mean, it's a great school, and I think I'm a good fit but these circumstances are just too weird.
bakalamba Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I think this is an extension of the impostor syndrome - why would they accept me, of all people? Set it aside, and enjoy your acceptance. AWall2014 and VigNag 2
Lifesaver Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 When I got my acceptance via phone call, I thought for sure they made a mistake. Especially since the conversation started with, "Have you received an email from us yet?" Uhhh, no, no I didn't. And when I didn't receive said email for over a week, I got even more paranoid. I ended up emailing them to have them email me. And clarify that it wasn't a mistake. Haha. I'm a fool. But in my own defense, the snail mail letter didn't come for another 2-3 weeks and the status never changed online.
EngineerGrad Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Lol guys............................... Relax. Really.
APryhod Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Haha, this makes me feel a bit better. I'm very glad I'm not the only paranoid one rbamattre, good call. Looking it up it definitely seems like we are all suffering from impostors syndrome.
