Which grad school that has the best/worst service after they rejected you

Hi all,

I am writing this post as I had applied to seven schools and had received some rejection letters.

I wonder which schools told you about your deficiencies and which schools told you only that they cannot provide enough roomห for all applicants.

This would help deciding which schools are worthy of the application fee....... <_<

Interesting question!

I got rejected from one school this cycle, Harvard School of Public Health. I heard back on 2/28 after they acknowledged receipt of my application on 1/6. I heard back around the same time all the other HSPH applicants did-- they didn't seem to leave the rejected people hanging.

They did send me invitations to some summer program while I was waiting, which annoyed me. It looks like a cash cow, and they say in the emails that it doesn't imply you'll be accepted but they must know people strongly consider going just to help their chances at a brand name school.

I think they genuinely tried to write a nice form email but it was actually kind of an annoying one as well. And I have read good rejection form letters before-- they are possible. HSPH's implied I must be disappointed-- I wasn't-- and talked about how their standards were very challenging in a way that I think was supposed to be comforting but actually came out kind of patronizing.

SFU - worst.

Did not receive any response regarding my online application for months after the deadline notification date. Had to call to receive my rejection over the phone.

This was a few years ago.

When I applied to Michigan State University for my Masters a few years ago, I didn't receive a rejection letter until June. I figured it would be a rejection when I didn't hear from them in April, but sheesh. I also have a friend that didn't hear he was accepted, with full funding, no less, from the University of Oregon until August. How thoughtful.

Stony Brook was the worst. They sent an email to check the website that was pretty much like "too bad so sad".

The letter from Washington was kind

UCI sent out a generic email, but my POI followed up with a nice one :)

I had a DGS contact me to say I'd been accepted and gave me a package offer. When I told them a little while later I was turning it down, they gave me a rejection letter! I'd already said no, but I didn't expect that one! And then I've gotten the email/snail mail combo rejection (Emory). Had an email attachment rejection and then the next day I got a letter in my mail with the SAME two line "No thanks" letter in hard copy.

What a waste of paper, honestly.

After getting a rejection letter from UW, I wrote an email requesting the grad-admission on help pointing out my deficiencies, so that I can improve my chance in the next year.
But the tone of the reply disappoints me than its rejection letter.

"Since applications were already carefully and comprehensively reviewed, appealing the admission decision is not an option."

This just make me wanna shout " I did not try to argue. "

Wow, I would really send an email to expain your intentions. Not for your sake but rather such that UW might give more appropriate responses to people with similar requests in the future.

My wait list notifications from UChicago and UMichigan were both quite nicely phrased, my rejection from UCLA made them sound a bit peevish when they talked about the incredible volume of apps, almost sounding like evaluating all of the applicants was a chore that they disliked … my rejections from UNC Chapel Hill and Stanford were much more friendly in tone.

Queen's: two form letter rejections via email, then a letter sent to my house, then an invitation to a survey after I'd already been rejected. Rude!
