Waitlisted for UW-Madison! So I suppose that's a start to the season? Hoping the next few weeks and months provide openings...But, congrats to all those already admitted at this point! :D

Congratulations on the waitlisting, fingers crossed it'll develop into a real offer or that you'll get some cool ones from other unis Edited by Katla

I'm one of the UW-Madison admits this year--I'm coming in with a BA. P excited since this is my second round applying!

Way to go!

Has anyone else not heard back from Wisconsin?
I'm kind of assuming at this point that someone decided not to reject me on my birthday, and I'm probably on their to-do list for Monday.

Just heard from Dr. Amanpal Garcha. I got in! A fellowship nomination as well. He told me to expect a call with details on Saturday.

Toasterazzi, I wrote to him at 12:45 am Columbus time, and he replied in four minutes!

Any other early (?) OSU admits gotten any calls/personal emails from the department yet? I still just have the robot email...

Edit: to add a big congrats to the people accepted/waitlisted to Madison! I don't live in Madison, but could maybe answer general Wisconsin questions as a midwesterner-by-transplant of almost five years.

Not a peep outside of the email you mentioned. I'm not sure how long it takes for the graduate school to return fellowship approvals to the department, but I'd wager that they're waiting for confirmation before they call us with specifics.

For the Halberstam fans, just thought I'd put this here as they combine my two (or three, including the Last Bookstore) loves into one beautiful video:

Awesome; thanks for sharing. I wish they had the whole session online!

Congrats to the UW-M admits!

Having just returned from a conference (and more than 48 hours without internet), you scared the crud out of me. Then I realized you were referring to Madison, not Milwaukee (where I applied). If last year continues to be predictive, it should be another couple of weeks before any of the places I applied start notifying.

Anyway, congrats to all of the Madison admits!!!!

I haven't heard anything, but then I applied to Comp Lit, and I don't think (wishful thinking, maybe?) they've sent out their replies yet...

Just to give you a head's up, you will not know whether or not you have a fellowship by the time the department contacts you. If you know that you've been accepted, you have almost certainly been nominated for a university fellowship by the department, which will open up some funding to allow you to visit campus in March; Dr. Garcha will give you more info when he calls.

Many thanks for the info, Chadillac!

I see. Good to know, thanks!

Yeah I still have all my old emails, and Dr. Garcha notified me about the fellowship nom when he called me. Then I received email confirmation of the nom about a week or so later (early February). And then I received an email notifying me that I'd actually been awarded the email at the beginning of March. And then the Open House was toward the end of March, and I personally confirmed my decision to attend OSU within like two days of attending the Open House. I really, really loved the Open House lol.

For those of us in OSU-limbo, does anyone recall when waitlists/rejections have formally gone out in the past? Not that the past is a wholly great predictor, but it could provide some solace for those of us with fingers and toes tightly crossed.

I just got a call from the DGS, so I'm sure he's making his calls now and you will hear soon!

Nominated for two fellowships. As presented, it is a first-year fellowship upwards of $20,000 with no teaching responsibilities. After that, the department would fund me at around $16,000 per year with a 1-1 teaching load (I'm coming in with an MA, so he said 4-5 years).

He also said the university will cover $250 toward visiting their open house.

I want to say that rejections last year went out within a week or two after acceptances. I'm not sure about waitlists though.

Well, Damon's the good the bad and the queen album had some good songs. And grahams first solo album is great. But yeah, agreed, modern life, parklife, and the great escape are legendary! I'm a huuuuuge Britpop fan

Regarding Cornell comp lit, POI told me they would be in touch in February. Judging from the results board I would say around the second Friday of February, probably....
