tulips Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Does anyone know when MIT's recruitment weekend(s) is/are?
doomination Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Also, for anyone who is wondering, Minnesota's visiting weekends are: February 27 - March 1 and March 27 - March 29
doomination Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Just got an email from Caltech! Very excited. Visiting weekend is February 27 - March 2.
yushish Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Congrats on Caltech! The visiting weekend date is interesting -- a month earlier than it was last year.Â
Argon Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Congrats on Caltech (and to everyone else thus far)! Just saw that on the results.  Personally, only heard from Illinois so far. Getting anxious about the rest!
tulips Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 No, I haven't heard from MIT yet haha. I was just curious since I saw a couple people post on the results section. And congrats on Caltech!!
acelloguy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I had a question about recruitment weekends! Â Are most recruitment weekends non-interview? Most of the programs my friends are visiting seem to have an interview attached, but I was told that generally (even if the school has an interview) you're probably set if you get the interview.
tulips Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) I had a question about recruitment weekends! Â Are most recruitment weekends non-interview? Most of the programs my friends are visiting seem to have an interview attached, but I was told that generally (even if the school has an interview) you're probably set if you get the interview. Â It depends on the program. As far as I know, for chemical engineering programs, recruitment weekends aren't the same as interview weekends since they are typically extended to those who have already been accepted and are used more as a method for students to see whether that program is a right fit for them (so the schools are "recruiting" you rather than you "interviewing" for a spot with them). However, during the recruitment weekends, you will often have opportunities to meet one-on-one (or in some other manner) with faculty that you are interested in working with. This isn't an interview, though; it is more of an opportunity for you to meet and talk with faculty to see if that school is a good fit for you. Â Hope that makes sense! saxpack16 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hey everyone, I was just accepted by Boulder! Did anyone else apply there? Best of luck as you all continue to hear back!
mortal Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone, Â Just got an admit from U Delaware. Â All the best! Edited January 13, 2015 by mortal
Argon Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) Congrats! The Delaware admits seem to be making their rounds. Â Still waiting for the big hitters (MIT, Princeton, Berkeley, Stanford, etc.). Based on previous years' results, it seems of those 4, Princeton's up next with a decision likely to come out this week sometime. Fingers crossed, although, based on a variety of reasons, of the 4 I think Princeton is my worst chance. Edited January 13, 2015 by argon214
saxpack16 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hey argon214, I have a connection to Princeton, and was told that we should not expect to hear about admissions before January 20th! ust out of curiosity, what are your research interests?
Argon Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Thanks for the update! It's always nice to know when to expect things. I'm interested in computational work - mainly transport phenomena and/or reaction kinetics. How about yourself?
Lucy In The Sky Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Any word on Stanford ChemE results? Last year they came out quite early I see..  Anyone else here interested in SUNCAT and in general photoelectrochemistry/catalysis?  Good Luck!
doomination Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks everyone  Lucky in the Sky (with diamonds): I don't think anyone has heard from Stanford yet. If someone has, they haven't posted here or submitted a result. I think that might be because they extended the deadline somewhat significantly.
Argon Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Yeah, I don't think (m)any people have heard from Stanford. I, too, am interested in SUNCAT, but mainly because there is a fair degree of theory and computational work going on there (not super focused on catalysis in particular).
cafe_au_lait Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 *crickets chirping* Â not too much going on this week, huh? but I'd imagine lots of results next week...
Argon Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Yeah, this seems to be a pretty quiet week (to my surprise). I'm definitely feeling that there'll be a buzz with some big name schools next week. Time will tell!Â
saxpack16 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I'm fairly certain we will be hearing from Princeton next week. Additionally, based on previous years' admissions results, I think we will hear from U Minnesota. Not sure about any other schools, but best of luck to everyone!
doomination Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Speaking of hearing back, I just got an admission to Stanford. Very exciting!
tulips Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I heard from Stanford as well! Now there's the dilemma that their visitation weekend is the same as UT Austin's...
yushish Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Congrats to the folks who just got into Stanford! I'm a first year PhD student planning to join the theory group at SUNCAT. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
