isilya Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I agree with AvatarPsych -- you don't want to come off as crazy to the admin people! Even though everyone is going as insane as you right now (I know I am!!), it could look bad to the people you're contacting.
psych face Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Is it wierd that I don't want to take a shower because I think I might miss an interview call? Damned foresight. This just happened to me. I will never take a shower before midnight again. They didn't leave a message. Number traces to school of interest.

psych face Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Just saw the first post from UC Davis, ugh, there's a lot of action up there today. ...WOOT!
Tolman's Rat Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Just saw the first post from UC Davis, ugh, there's a lot of action up there today. ...WOOT! "informal" phone interview though...I wonder what that really means. I had a phone "meeting" with a POI from UConn where we talked for an hour or so, but I wouldn't consider it an interview I want to know about interview weekends! it does seem like the UC schools are moving quickly though, with Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Riverside, now Davis, and (apparently) Berkeley next week all getting in touch with applicants. Really hope UCSD is next!!
Tolman's Rat Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) UT Austin, Columbia, and UI-UC now! Ah! Edited December 18, 2014 by Tolman's Rat
kara.spinney Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 So far only one of the schools that I applied to (Virginia Tech) have been posted on the results search. I am dying to hear something positive from at least one school that I applied to so that I can relax! At least the holidays are coming, and I have several days off from work to travel home for Christmas with my family, so that should take my mind off things for a little bit. Does anybody know if during the break between semesters schools continue to review applications, or if those few weeks will be total silence?

While some schools begin reviewing apps in December, others don't even touch them until after break.
hummm Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I got an on-campus interview invite today. The official invitation letter (which I received over an email) did not say if the transportation is going to be covered. If they don't say it in their email, does that mean that they are not covering the transportation cost?
yellowmint Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I got an on-campus interview invite today. The official invitation letter (which I received over an email) did not say if the transportation is going to be covered. If they don't say it in their email, does that mean that they are not covering the transportation cost? For all three of my interviews, the cost was covered and they said so in the emails. Maybe email the grad secretary to be sure? But I would guess the cost isn't covered if they didn't say anything.
athlete2academic Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I too have gotten three interviews, all of which are outside of reasonable driving distance (12+ hours). One of those schools provides a few hundred dollars to defray the cost of travel; however, the other two schools help you accommodate your housing while on campus (staying with a graduate student), but no actual reimbursement of travel costs. Unfortunately, this prohibits many candidates from actually being able to attend an on-campus interview. However, all three of my interview invites seem empathetic toward that situation.
