Hi, everyone. I've been checking the results search (probably too often) and I noticed that psychology students started posting that they've heard from schools about interview invitations. I even saw that somebody posted an invite from Virginia Tech for the clinical science program (I applied to that program as well). I was under the impression that I wouldn't hear from any schools until at least mid-to late January, but now that some people have started posting that they've already received interview invitations, I'm getting a little worried. Should I be concerned that I haven't heard anything? I'm pretty sure that it's still too early, but I'm starting to question myself now. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, and congrats to everyone who has heard from schools and good luck to everyone still waiting!

From watching the results page last year (I'm on my sequel year of doing this), it seems like some schools send out invites earlier than others, and within schools, some POIs may send out invitations before others. From here on, you will start seeing more and more people posting things.

It's still pretty early yet, considering most programs just had that Dec. 1 submission date. So it's still early too freak out.

I am freaking out too!! It doesn't help that a first-year grad student in my department told me that last year he heard back from MIT barely a couple weeks after the Dec 1 deadline...now I'm going to be obsessively looking for an email from MIT that probably won't come!! I also expect that I'll hear back from universities starting in January at the earliest (although it might be different in clinical psych than more experimental programs).

I got an invitation to interview yesterday, and from the results page of the last handful of years, the earliest this department had ever sent out invites before is Jan 5th.

It's happening crazy fast with some of these schools this year.

Ones of my POIs told me that this year they are trying to get out invites early since they are competing to get the top students. He wasn't too fond of it because it forces them to pick students at the same time they are grading finals, but I suppose it might help guarantee interview weekend attendance if you are the first school to extend an invite.  Maybe lots of schools are trying out this strategy.

Many schools invite top candidates in December every year. But interviewees don't always post it. Lots of people accept an invite then back out because it conflicts with a school they are more interested in. Then second choice candidates get a lot of last minute invites in January and February.

I can second the competing thing. One of my POI said the same!

Wow, this is interesting!

I've been given three interviews so far; I wasn't expecting to hear from so many schools this quickly. I guess this explains it. I wonder how many schools actually have this mindset, though.

If this is the thought process at many schools, I wonder if I will hear from some of my Dec. 15 deadline programs before the new year...  B)

If the person with a WUSTL interview wants to pm me their POI(s), I'd be happy to share any info I know. I went there for undergrad, and my postdoc went there for grad.

I heard this from the director of clinical training at my university also. Apparently the deadlines for a lot of schools have been slowly creeping earlier and earlier over the last few years as a result.

On the other hand… one of my schools emailed today to say that their office is closed for the holidays. No interview invites have been extended yet! I checked my other applications, and some have similar messages about their offices closing.

I'm going to hold onto this thought for dear life and try to enjoy the holidays.

To confirm this (my own post, 4 posts up ^), I was extended an interview invite today from a school with a Dec. 15 deadline. So, yeah...that turn-around was quick.

I'm just getting more nervous by the day. I haven't heard from any of the schools that I applied to.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most of mine haven't got any posts here from ANY of their disciplines because they do things so late.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Yesyesyes. I'm using this thought to allow myself to enjoy the holidays!

and you have the comfort to know we are in this with you. I was tentative about this site, thought it might make it more difficult when I haven't heard back from schools-- but misery loves company and we are all waiting together. I love to rejoice with those who are rejoicing and I know I will grieve (obviously I'm not going to get into all 13 schools) so I will grieve with those who are grieving too. It's a nice lil community on here!
