  1. K. It's important that you will be able to work on things you're interested in. Would you be able to do that with A? Is there anyone else you could see yourself working with at A? I think it's important to always have that option, you never know what could happen.
  2. Are these the only factors that seem important at this point?
  3. So, who else is starting at USC this fall? I'm pretty excited!
  4. Hi all. To set myself up for success in grad school, I've been doing a lot of exploration of digital research tools. Specifically, I'm trying to hone in on an ideal research workflow, involving: gathering articles/other relevant materials organizing the files (including renaming PDFs) annotating materials writing manuscripts If anyone else is interested in this topic, I'd love to share experiences! Currently, I'm teaching myself how to use two programs, Devonthink Pro Office, and Sente. In addition to Scrivener, which I already use, this seems like it might make up a good workflow, based on my needs. I am still in the process of figuring out how these 3 programs work best together. For anyone interested, these are some of my perceived needs, and why I chose the three programs above: I need all my materials to be fully searchable. Devonthink Pro Office includes an OCR tool. I need my annotations (notes) to be easily exportable (and searchable), and include the original quote and citation. Sente's annotations are unique in that they include a title, your note, the original quote, and the citation. When put into Devonthink, the notes are easily searchable When writing, I need lots of organizational flexibility (I think of things in lots of different ways, and tend to write short snippets that aren't directly related to each other). Scrivener has lots of different prewriting options. How about you?
  5. If you look at the membership of SPSP (Society for Personality and Social Psychology), it's majority women at the early career level, but that changes dramatically at the more senior levels.
  6. Brrr. But should be a great place to go to school (friendly people, reasonable-size cities, etc)
  7. Thanks for the info. Did you check the box that allows them to share your application with other departments? Because I applied for the CNAP but checked that box, so I'm wondering if my application is still floating around somewhere.
  8. Has anyone else not heard anything back from Duke (CNAP or P&N)?
  9. Has anyone heard from greene, cushman, or cikara? feel free to private message. thanks!
  10. I'm not sure if Annenberg grad housing is different, but a Dornsife grad student i know had to move out every summer.
  11. Let's go back to productive discussion To any current social psych students-- How did your first impressions of people, during your interview visit, play out once you actually got to know them? To applicants-- What personality traits are you looking for in prospective PIs or classmates?
  12. i see on the Results page that someone reached out to their POI and got a skype interview set up. Trying to decide if I should do the same, or if e-mailing would just annoy them.
  13. I wouldn't word it like that. Just see if they offer up any info about the process, or casually ask about it.
  14. sounds like a good opportunity to ask him to chat on the phone, and make a great impression. you could ask if the amnesia committee/ entire department has the final say. if so, it sounds like he wants you but doesn't have the control to definitely admit you.
  15. Did you see the Results posting that Social interviews are next week? I'd assume invites are all out.
  16. To the person who recently posted on the results page: Do you know if all invitations for all areas have been sent out, or just one specific area?
  17. If anyone contacts a department and learns that all Social invites have gone out, please let us know
  18. Anyone know when the social psych departments at Harvard, Stanford or UCSB will be reviewing apps?
  19. I have a friend there, and he mentioned that some professors haven't even started looking at applications. So don't worry!
  20. I believe that PhD programs will definitely want to see a subject test, if you aren't a psychology major.
