MovingTarget22 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Best of luck to all! With all the pressure almost over! Don't forget to share some work! thepictureisstill 1
bloodred Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I share this sentiment too. Maybe it's everyone's first time around applying. It's my second time (I didn't want to go to the schools I got into the first time around and glad I didn't go!) and I had everything submitted to most schools close to a month ago to avoid exactly this. I wouldn't even chance it. Â Â This is not meant to be offensive at all, but is there a reason you all waited until the last minute to submit? Am I missing something? Â No and No, and in reality there is no 'last minute.' On time is on time regardless of how early or late it is, none of you will get more points since you submitted a few days, weeks, months, prior to the deadline. I am happy that you all seem to be so well organized and more mature than all of us other 'slacker-last-minuters.'

I did not insinuate either that being early was better. we are all going to be given our fair chance. Sorry to say, if you missed the original deadline and are dependent upon the extension that can be perceived as a form of slacking. As one person commented earlier "why even chance it". Its not a matter of believing your chances are better for being early. Those comments were addressed to the dozens of people even beyond this forum that nearly missed their chance by waiting until the last minute. thepictureisstill 1
thepictureisstill Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I edited my post- did not mean to offend anyone and surely did not want to make anyone feel as if they're a slacker...slackers don't apply to graduate school at all. Just sharing my past experience.

Just sharing my past experience. We are applying for an MFA and Yale is one of the top programs in the country. In honest opinion there should certainly be healthy criticism. Isn't that what is to be expected at the MFA level. I personally don't believe applying last minute is bad. Two years ago my girlfriend was accepted into Columbia's masters journalism program and she applied an hour before the deadline and she has even said how she almost missed the "chance" Let's lighten up though everyone! Its almost over! Edited January 7, 2015 by MovingTarget22
thepictureisstill Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Cheers to that. Best of luck to everyone!
markeet Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Just to be clear: no one missed the deadline here. Yale had a glitch in their system that caused everyone who plans to submit their application on jan7th not able to do so, and as an apology they offered a small extension.
MovingTarget22 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Last minute glitch, barely making the deadline, cutting it short. Sounds all the same. call it what you want. stygldbby and obviouslytma 2
obviouslytma Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Last minute glitch, barely making the deadline, cutting it short. Sounds all the same. call it what you want.  This was actually a technical bug on their part, which they owned and fixed. I really appreciated their quick response, too, given that they were probably inundated with panicky emails. I got a personal email from the admin informing me of the issue and that the system was back up. The original deadline was 1/7 (today), before midnight, and the system had a glitch. As a result of the outage last night, they extended the deadline by the amount of time the system was out (about 6 hours). That's the sensible and courteous way to respond to an issue like that. It would have been fine to just keep the deadline the same as it was before the technical issue, but it's also appreciated for folks whose schedules perhaps only allow them to work on their applications late night EST.  And anyone trying to submit their application last night (ie most of the people who posted in this thread) was early since the deadline is tonight. nicotinefig Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Anybody else wondering why Yales application interface changes the contrast/colours after uploaded to the portfolio? If you preview them, the difference is quite striking

MovingTarget22 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 They hardly sound the same. We should call it what it is. Yup. 'Wait until the last minute to apply. Unforseen occurrence happens then sit looking puzzled at the last minute'.If I get an interview at Yale, I'm going to test your theory and take the last train to New Haven that would get me there on time and pray that the train doesn't break down. But if it does maybe I can believe I had no control over the situation.

markeet Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I can agree with you there. Â That's great. That's what the world needs more haha.
markeet Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Anybody else wondering why Yales application interface changes the contrast/colours after uploaded to the portfolio? If you preview them, the difference is quite striking  I noticed that as well. I think that's a color management thing related to the way their system processes our images (which produces those jpeg previews)? I don't think there is much we can do. They will probably download the actual image files for viewing.

nicotinefig Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Ok I am being a little paranoid here, but I didn't receive any e-mail confirmation that my application was submitted, just confirmation for my payment. It says it is submitted when I log into the application online but I just want to be 100% sure. Is it the same with you guys? Cuz for all my other applications I got confirmations e-mails...

If you log into their apply.art.yale.edu thing, you can see the checklist and it says what's been submitted/what's missing there. I did not receive any email confirmation either.
jl10 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I know my application was already submitted, but now I'm thinking about my SOP and freaking out. I wrote about working with a professor outside of the fine arts department and I'm wondering if anyone thinks that was a mistake...or should I just relax

thepictureisstill Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Do you guys think we'll hear rejections/interview requests today?
Maya31 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Based on the history of past freak out forums, it looks like it will either be this Friday or next Friday.
jl10 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Does anyone know if the interview requests are in the form of a phone call or an email...or will it be on our application?
