At least one round of UCLA admissions was released a few weeks ago. It's still possible that you'll hear in the coming weeks (as I understand it, they have an internal wait list). Good luck!!

Have you been notified of your Harvard rejection (reported on your signature)? Or is it assumed?

All the rejections in my signature are presumed based on not hearing anything when acceptances/waitlists went out. I've updated to state that in my signature so there's no confusion!

Purdue (PhD) - According to Draper, "I'll be letting you know sometime this week or early next week where you stand as far as admission and funding is concerned."

 

Ohio University (MA) - According to Petrik, Applications will be reviewed March 9-13, given that spring break threw off their application deadline this year.

No mention of timeline of when decisions will come out; just that they would "be convening the graduate committee next week (3/9-3/13) to review graduate applications.  No decisions have been made at this point."

That was my best guess. I'm just surprised that they took it as grounds for declining an offer ("Would have declined anyway").

Man, I think this Leiter-hating bandwagon is going a bit far now. I'm not his biggest fan, and I admit being swept up by the whole September Statement, but now it seems like his detractors are grasping at straws to make it seem like anything he does is an example of bullying.

I mean, the original author of the comment was clearly the one who is the most in the wrong. But why would a specific person's job trajectory be something fit for discussion in the context of "issues in the profession"?

I don't think it is appropriate, and it shouldn't have been cleared by Leiter. But I don't think that him allowing the comment and his admittedly obnoxious follow-up statement that she is a 'noxious presence' amounts to bullying, especially if the argument is that amounts to bullying because of his position, status, and recognizability as a member of the profession.

I actually have little knowledge of the recent hate. I've come across links to the issues in his and other blogs but nowadays I skip most of them because I simply don't care. As someone who is completely indifferent to (and ignorant of) the recent hate badwagon, all I wanted to say is that the guy has always done a good job of coming across as a complete asshole (based on the way he has written about his cyber-battles in the past). Frankly I'm really surprised an academic is so immersed in that kind of drama.

Brandeis will extend offers any day now (perhaps tomorrow). Offers will go by email. There will be probably 15-20 initial offers, and the department will aim to enroll roughly 10. (Perhaps fewer-- perhaps 8 or 9.) Like every top MA program, Brandeis's wait-list is long. Many strong PhD applicants apply to Brandeis and others as a back-up plan. They get snatched up, so these MA programs have to work through a list of wait-listed applicants. Hence some people aren't admitted until very late in the game.

So I'm kind of new to this, and obvs you all won't know for sure, but would you say no news is good news at this point, or does it vary by department? Still waiting to hear back from 7 of the 11 schools I applied to, and obsessively checking my application accounts, all of which still have "under departmental review" (or the equivalent) as my status... I'm kind of dying here Should I assume I've been rejected, or is there any hope of wait lists?

 

(I know some of the schools I've applied to have told people they were wait-listed, and have released some rejections-- yet I've heard nothing-- so I'm just going to pretend that I'm so awesome that they're trying to secure a sloth to give me along with funding when they accept me. Wishful thinking. Sigh.)
