But what are you listening to??? We all have the soundtrack of our lives, whether to get us through tough admissions season or just in general. So here's your chance to make all of our lives richer.... I'll start, because right this very moment I'm listening to Beck: Morning Phase, and it is very nice indeed. I was so excited for this album to come out some time ago due to the single Say Goodbye that I first heard. I love that song. And then, you know, that whole Grammy's things too... The first song is titled Things I Can't Change. I think that's pretty self-explanatory for right now. Other than that, I listen to Yo-Yo Ma's unaccompanied cello suites when I'm reading and writing. Yo Appppplication, I'mma let you finish but Beyonce etc. etc. etc. you get the idea. I recently got every Alan Parsons Project album on vinyl and have been listening to those a bunch. Special mention goes to "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" because this is an English forum and it's based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe. Other Decisions Season hits include some very angry black and viking metal, because screaming/growling along to that is probably healthier than screaming/growling at students who roll their eyes in my class or my poor, embattled SO. I've seriously considered it a few times now, since we've had a few music discussions within other threads... I haven't bought anything new in the 2015 calendar year as yet, but am looking very forward to Torche's new album Restarter which comes out in a couple of weeks. Torche has a very unique sound -- dense and heavy, with a lot of rumbling low notes...but there's something unmistakably positive and optimistic about their music. It's considered "metal," but is generally more like QOTSA in terms of heaviness. Some of the albums from last year I'm still playing pretty regularly include TV on the Radio's Seeds, which I would probably call the 2014 Album of the Year, for me. A close second would be The New Pornographers' Brill Bruisers. I've been a big fan of them for about ten years, when my best friend at the time worked on a couple of their albums. I also met one of the members while I was doing a recording session in a small studio, but it was before they were big, and I didn't know who he was! I'm actually seeing them in concert down in Richmond on Saturday. Great Valentine's Day outing for my wife and I. I've also been listening the heck out of Wolf Alice. They're a UK band and don't have any albums out yet, but have a couple of EPs and a couple of singles. I heard the first eight bars or so of "Moaning Lisa Smile" as incidental music on an HBO series last year, and had to find out what it was...and wasn't disappointed! I'll be seeing them later this month as well during their first brief American tour. There's been a lot of Dylan for me lately, both in father and son forms. Highway 61 Revisited has been on my playlist, as well as Jakob Dylan's Seeing Things. Outside of that there's been a lot of study music on Pandora which includes Moby, Tokimonsta, Xx, Colcannon, and Miles Davis. I'm loving this thread though. I've also been on a Missy Elliott kick since the Super Bowl. And I regularly listen to The Read podcast. It's one of my favorite things.
