I also applied to the summers only track. I'm currently an SLPA and I live out of state. I'm not exactly the ideal candidate in terms of GPA and GRE scores but I'm still hoping to be considered. I haven't heard anything back from them yet besides the initial emails saying that my application has been submitted. I'm hoping to hear something this week, I'm going crazy!

Most schools' websites will have a section that list the average GRE scores and average GPAs for the newly-admitted students.  Compare those to yours to get an idea where you would stand.  Personal essays, recommendations are usually rated.  All info put in a matrix which then sorts candidates from highest to lowest.  Some schools will have between 500-600 applicants for only 60-80 openings.  The higher the GPA, the higher the GREs, the better the essay and recommendations, the retaking of "C"-earned classes that one puts on their grad school app (especially in the speech/language/csd areas), all make for a stronger candidate.  If not accepted one year, there's the next and the next.  It may take a few tries but often works out.  Best of luck.

Anyone heard from NAU summers-only track? I see people have gotten acceptances for the full time track. It's making me nervous.

Hello clmogel..

I too applied to NAU summers-only track. I recently sent a FB message to NAU CSD page regarding admission/rejection emails and this is the response I received from Dr. Murray. I hope this helps a little with the anxiety.

These messages were sent February 22

"I did give you incorrect information. The letters that are being sent now are for the Full Time and Leveler tracks. Unfortunately, you will have to wait a bit longer for the Part Time Summers Track. It looks like those letters won't go out until March 15. My apologies! We do get over 400 applications so it's quite a process to go through all of them. May I recommend dark chocolate? It works wonders for me! By the way, this is Dr. Murray"

Hi!!! Is anyone planning to attend NAU's full time regular track?

Hey I see you were a past cycle but an out of state applicant.  Do you have any information on how much the out of state tuition for graduate school ended up being (if you attended).  I am having difficulty calculating it!

I recently received an email from NAU basically saying that the first round of acceptances have been sent out, but that all decisions have not been made. It said we will not hear until after April 15 if more spots are available. My question is, is this essentially a waitlist situation? It did not say I have been put on the waitlist but it was not a rejection either. From the results page I see that others received this too as well as rejections. Was anyone actually told they were put on a waitlist?? This is for the full time track.

Yes I received this same email after I received an email from the graduate school of rejection. I emailed them to get further clarification on this situation. No response yet on the email.

I wanted to let those of you waiting to hear know that I literally just sent NAU an email declining their offer.

It was hard to decline since it looks like a really great school in a great location but I hope my decision helps to bump someone up off the waitlist...or however they are doing things over there.

If anyone does go there, take advantage of the clinical opportunity in a native american village, looks like such an amazing opportunity!

Best of luck to everyone!

Hello,

Thank you for letting us know that. I was told we would have to wait till April 15 to find out if seats were open. I'm still praying I have a chance this year, if not I'm still applying again for next season.

To those who have been accepted, have you gotten any more information about the program? I am still waiting to hear from 3 schools before making a decision but I'd like to already be prepared to make that decision.. Unfortunately I live to far away to visit before April 15th... From what I can see, their website doesn't have a whole lot of information about clinical opportunities and such, other than their on-campus clinic. Also, it looks like the NAU full-time program is a full 2 years (6 semesters), including two summers. A lot of the other schools I've applied to are only 5 semesters, without that last summer. I also can't seem to find any information on if a thesis is required? Does anyone have any information on any of this?

I think it would be great to talk to a current grad student but I'm not really sure how to go about that. Do I just email someone from the department and see if they can get me in touch with a student?

What would you like to know? You should have heard by now one way or the other. I don't know what happened in previous years, but I do know that acceptance letters have been sent out.

I don't have much information but am also looking their program.  I have heard Flagstaff is really cool though.  I know an SLP that went to NAU but the program was going through some changes/issues when she graduated.

I'm sure it has improved since then b/c she graduated a while ago, but i'd love to hear that first hand from more recent students!

NAU received reaccreditation for 8 more years. It is a wonderful program; small but mighty. 10 of their 12 full time faculty members have doctorates. The clinic on campus is terrific. You can get a lot of hours in the on campus clinic, but they have a lot of outside rotations in hospitals, private clinics, schools, SNFs, etc.

I declined my offer this weekend for the part-time program. Hope this helps someone! I hear Flagstaff is awesome!

Hi guys,

I applied to the summers only program and got rejected for a  2nd time. I feel like I'm hitting my head against a block wall. I was wondering if you guys could give me any inside into what  you included in your essay and extra experience did you put on your resume? I just feel like I'm getting to old to keep doing this year after year. Thanks for any extra help!

Hi, I know this is an old post. Just curious if you eventually got into a school?
