Ok, I don't want to start anything on here...I don't like to argue. Sorry to offend anybody by posting on here, I just didn't think it was that big of a deal. Just sharing info. :)

I'm going to the Fair because I was told by the locals that it is a religious experience.

I want to see Channel 11 in this "Big Red Barn" they keep talking about, preferably on what the woman termed "thrifty thursdays." Oh yeah, and I quote, "Big Fat Bacon: One-third pound slice of bacon fried and carmelized with maple syrup, served on-a-stick with dipping sauces." with "Fry Dogs, a French fry covered, deep fried hot dog on-a-stick." mmmmmmm.

I went... from what i could tell, it was mostly international students that showed up, since quite a few of the brochures at the library table were printed in Chinese... My department starts orientation Monday and then class on the 8th 'cause in Minnesota, you have to wait for the State Fair to end to start class.

I stopped by Coffman for a little bit before my department orientation started and saw the same thing. I guess international students are probably the ones that need the most help adjusting, or at least aren't confident enough to feel they can just skip orientation.

I'm going to the Fair because I was told by the locals that it is a religious experience.

Our DGS told us we needed to go so we could learn about the culture of the students we're going to be teaching (well, most likely that other people will be teaching). I'm really just going for two music acts, and chocolate covered bacon on a stick. It's kind of weird that I finally get to see the country singer from Austin and the gospel-ish singer from Nashville at the Minnesota State Fair.

Geez! Excuse me...I must of misunderstood when the question stated "everyone." And I thought this was the friendliest forum I had found so far, but I guess not. Please don't start being like all the other grad school forums and think you are better than everyone just because you are a graduate student. If it helps any, my first day as an "Officialy Grad" is Sept. 7, 2010. I'll be more careful where I post on here from now on.

It's not that we're better than you, but, as Walter would say, "Donny, you're out of your element".

Anywho, second year starts on the 8th. Last year of classes at last! :)

oh i'm so jealous of everyone who has already started or will start soon. i don't start til sept 30th!!! i'm taking a tues/thurs night class during sept. to meet a prerequisite for my program, but i don't consider it "real school" and so mostly it's just screwing with my work schedule and making me anxious.

good luck everyone!
