  1. I have 1 from my supervisor, 1 from the professor that supervised my research a few years ago, I'm just missing one that can attest to my academic ability.
  2. Hi all, I got my master degree three years ago. I've been working since graduation. Now I want to apply to schools again for a second master (but in another subfield). A few schools stated at least one of the LORs need to be from current/former professors. I tried to contact the graduate professors, but came with no luck. Is it ok to use the undergraduate recommendations that I have on file from Interfolio.com? Will it raise red flags? I only have 5 professors from my graduate institution and 3 of them were visiting professors, which I lost contact. The other two, one turned me down and another have not responded. I have moved since graduation so it will take a flight to ask in person. Any comments, suggestions, feedbacks?
  3. You can't be worst than me. I struggled this first semester and ended up with a B- average. I'm emailing my advisor to see what I can do. I don't want to be expelled.
  4. Thanks for your response. But I still think I'm gonna try to see if I can have a shot at transfering.
  5. Now I decide I want to go for School Psychology Would it be a waste of time in the general psych program? Is it possible to do general psych M.A and like get a School Psych Ph.D later on? My school doesn't offer school psychology only general psych M.A. I'm so confused now. Is it a big mistake? Should I transfer? Ok I was just looking at the NASP website and it says certification for NY is : http://www.nasponline.org/certification ... st.aspx#NY Department of Education Credential: School Psychologist-requires either completion of a NYS registered graduate program in school psychology or 60 semester hours of graduate coursework in psychology leading to master's degree; internship approved by the graduate program (one year of paid, full-time approved experience as a school psychologist in a PreK-12 setting may be substituted for internship), Child Abuse Identification Workshop, and School Violence Prevention Workshop. Permanent certification requires 2 years of experience in a pupil personnel position. Board of Psychology Credential: Psychologist-requires doctoral degree in psychology, 2 years of supervised experience by a licensed psychologist (pre-doctoral: 1750 hour internship as part of doctoral program; post-doctoral:1750 hours) no more than a 45 hour work week, a passing converted score of at least 75 on EPPP, and certification as a Child Abuse Reporter. Requires 2 hours of weekly supervision, 1 of which must be face-to-face. Board does not license non-doctoral psychologists. So if anything that I want to work in the department of education, I'm safe? Because it says "60 semester hours of graduate coursework in psych leading to master's degree"
  6. If you're in the masters program and would like to pursue ph.d later, start thinking about gre and gre subject......at least that's what I'm doing. Really master program can fly by fast =(
  7. August 31st for me. I'm going to have class on Mondays and Thursdays
  8. Wow, that's just omg. I don't know what to say. :x
  9. Do schools send out rejection letters immediately or it's as slow as acceptance. I'm having a bad feeling of rejections coming along.....Once June comes, it'll be officially 3 months since I applied.
  10. Tell me about it. In recent months my post office have been doing an half-a$$ job. I've got my mails delivered to my neighbors a couple of house down or they put it in my tenant's mailbox. What is that? They can't even read names or house numbers or apartment numbers? How did they pass that test to be a mailman? I got so pissed off I filed a complaint on them, but they keep denying and say Oh we delivery very carefully, is it because the names aren't written clearly on the mailboxes? ~_~ Well if permanent black marker written in plain English block letters at like font size 16 isn't clear enough I don't know what's called clear. Post office got attitude these days.
  11. I haven't heard either. They sent me a snailmail a month ago that my application is being reviewed and I should hear from them by now. But nothing yet.
  12. I really want to be a Clinical Psychologist.......
  13. I do have to admit I slacked off a bit here and there. I don't want to make the same mistake again in grad school. I don't like how they universally judge, "Grad school believe if you can't maintain a 3.0 in undergrad, you can't do well in graduate school." That is so false. At least show some statistics...
  14. I applied 6 accepted to 2 but still waiting for 4.......1 of them said they'll have decisions in 2-3 weeks by snailmail...(but it's been way over 3 weeks even 4, nothing in my mailbox).......1 fixed my application to completion on April 28th....2 I haven't heard from since I sent in application......I think i have a low chance of getting in..........sigh........I don't want to have to wait until June or July.....I didn't get any funds for the 2 that accepted me.....I'm crossing my fingers to hope to get in 1 of the 4 I'm waiting for....It's so hard to predict if I'll get in or not.....
  15. Thanks for your response. Hopefully they will grant me the deferral.
  16. I applied 6 schools and 2 accepted me, but I'm still waiting for 4 more. 1 of them that accepted me gave me the deadline May 15th to reply. I want to defer it because I still want to wait for 4 other schools. (Because this one I did not get fundings.) I called the one that accepted me today and the lady said I have to email the graduate admission office to request a deferral. I just need another month of time to hear from the other 4 schools and then decide. How should I address it in the letter? Just say that I am still waiting for other schools to reply, may I have an extra month of time to decide? Has anyone defer a Masters program before?
  17. I am also waiting to hear from them as well. I think I will have to defer one of my school because I have to reply them whether I'm attending by May 15th >_<.
  18. 1 Acceptance (But it's a safety school) 5 Not heard from.......one of the schools said they were missing one of my recommendation and I had to call twice to get them moving because it was uploaded on their site they probably had a printer malfunction or something.......I don't know why I still haven't heard from schools it's almost 2 months.....is it because Deadline may 1st or 15th isn't here yet? so they can't make a decision before that? My anxiety goes up each time I get a thin envelope, but when I open it, it's just another bogus (thank you for applying, here's your log in to check the status of your application  )
  19. I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. But I don't think it correlates much with success in grad school. Here is an interesting article I came across http://gradpsych.apags.org/2009/03/score.html
  20. One of them did but that was for the research I did with her and she want to clarify what I "did" because she said she grew senile. Another one offered, but I said no I don't need to read it. So he just told me he wrote "Good ones". Another one, I only know he uploaded 2 pages.....so I think he wrote a lot...or maybe it was just the school header taking up space xD. I get suspicious......
  21. Congrats! Mine just sent them in today as well. I emailed the other one thanking her and she finally replied with "You're welcome. Good Luck!" Now I just gotta take my GRE in 2 weeks and send in all my applications and transcripts. Oh yes, worrying about being rejected is really frustrating >.<
  22. Can I say something like: "Thank you Dr...... for writing the recommendation for me. I appreciate all your help."
  23. If your notes don't have his info. I think you can check the school's website. I know for my school I would go to the department's website and they list the faculty's email and phone number. That's how I contact mine. Some schools put your application on hold if everything is not in. If they ask for 3 recs, they really meant 3 rec not 2. =/ Would you be able to ask another professor for a rec?
  24. I'm feeling the same way. Although I haven't submit my applications yet since I'm taking my GRE next month. I'm afraid my Rec isn't strong enough, my SOP isn't strong enough, my grades is too mediocre....or my 1 year research isn't all that. >.<......and I constantly ask myself, if I applied and get rejected everywhere what am I gonna do for my future....I am applying to 2 of each... safety/match/reach/...I'm going for General Psych Masters....I don't mean to be pessimistic, but just want a reality check on myself.... Has anyone read the "Getting In A step-by-step plan for gaining admission to graduate school in psychology". I think it's really helpful. Except it talks more about ph.D applicants.
  25. I had a similar situation, where the professor never responded my emails after she said to send her all the forms electronically including some of my bg info. I let it sit for 2 weeks and I still haven't received a reply from her. So I decide to ask if she received my email and please let me know. (I'm not trying to pester her, just at least give me a response that she got the links etc.) But she never did and just decided to upload the recommendation and never responded my emails to even let me know that, "oh i uploaded it." (even though I got the confirmation from the schools). I don't know.....I thought it's kinda rude that they don't respond at all. Maybe I'm too sensitive... :?.....and yes I do understand that she had to teach or do research etc... I'm kinda like questioning whether she wrote a good rec afterall.....Is it possible that a professor talk "bad" about you in a rec? But then good thing, I waived my rights to read it. And meanwhile I have a nice one that kept emailing me back and forth letting me know that the letter is in progress or he's gonna be out for a few days or if he would like more bg info to enhance the rec. I just think it's always a hassle to ask for LoR even though it's crucial for grad school and the like. I always feel like I'm "asking for a favor" and yes, at first people open up and say "sure why not, oh yes I can write one." and then they disappear into thin air like it never happened until I 'annoy' them constantly? I mean I don't want them to have an impression that I'm being desperate. To OP: I think it's better if the forms are electronic (if the schools have them online) so you can keep track of it. Otherwise it's kind of hard besides calling them up or going back to school in person.
