Lanie Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I am as well. App is due in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to get everything organized. Mostly concerned about the leadership letter as I can't get that to sound right.
DanJackson Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 You mean the leadership self-assessment? Or the letter about your leadership from someone else, unless you're writing both?
Lanie Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Self-assessment. It was done and submitted. I won't get it but it was a good effort into the application.
DanJackson Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Anyone else find out they're going on to the national competition?More proposal and CCV editing...
Sevenoffs Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) Anyone else find out they're going on to the national competition?More proposal and CCV editing...My supervisor informed me on Tuesday that I was selected for the national competition! Edited October 30, 2015 by Sevenoffs Wrong day. DanJackson 1
Lanie Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Not a word. I assume at this point it means a no?
Sevenoffs Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 You would probably have to ask your supervisor - the institutions won't directly tell you. I only know because my supervisor was informed one of the letters needed a tweak before heading to Ottawa. Lanie 1
DanJackson Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 In my case my university was the one to tell me, as a current doctoral student.By the way, did you all notice that the font requirements allow Arial 10 point? Everyone seems to think this is too small, but from what I saw, they read these online so it doesn't matter, they just want something at least that big which is clear enough on a screen.I find that a lot of Vanier advice seems to actually be SSHRC/CIHR/etc doctoral award advice, without paying attention to specifics of Vanier instructions. Sevenoffs Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) That's nice your school actually informs you! I was damn thankful my supervisor told me, as grad studies had told me I had to wait until final results to find out anything. And I did not notice the font. Although I submitted awhile ago at the end of August, so my memory may just suck. Edited October 30, 2015 by Sevenoffs
Lanie Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 A friend of mine won last year and she was told of a few tiny tweeks to the application the day before it was due to the competition. Another person I know was asked to reapply under CIHR from SSHRC this week. So I'm not sure what to think. They don't communicate with our supervisors but us directly here. Weird how each institution does it differently. Yes I noticed the 10 Arial ad used it myself. I had to cut waaaay back from my Vanier for regular SSHRC. Even the margins are different. Odd!Still on eggshells waiting for news.
Lanie Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Nominated! So happy and surprised. Now we wait 6 months. ;) DanJackson 1
Sevenoffs Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Just received the official email from Research Net saying that it moved forward to Vanier! Here's to the waiting process. DanJackson 1
Lanie Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Good luck! I wonder if/how we find out next. Anyone know?
smw123 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Ah! Wish I had read about the 10 pt font! Lol! Mine went national as well. Fingers crossed! good luck everyone!
smw123 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Anyone doing Trudeau? Is there a discussion page for this year?
Lanie Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Hey, just checked researchnet (not that I do this a lot ::coughs::) and it states that it is now in Peer Review. Anyone know what the various stages are?
Lanie Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 No. 3 rejections in a row will be painful enough. No need to add a 4th. The application was intense and when I looked through the people who got it last year, I realized quickly that I simply don't compare.
DanJackson Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Same. My Trudeau application went to national last year but did not even bother to apply this year because it seemed that you need to have written about 10 books, been the mayor of a medium sized town, discovered a new particle or element, invented solar power, and also be photogenic in order to win that one. Lanie Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 It was really the photogenic part that put me over the edge. Obviously I've authored 11 books and been a mayor of an entirely solar powered town. But the camera is not kind to me. Do you all remember what time the results were posted last year? Was it on time? On the 30th? I want to book a yoga class or something so I am unable to look. DanJackson and Sevenoffs 2
Lanie Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 A few more weeks to go! Hope you're all doing well. I'm not even sure I want to check.
Imaginary Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Does anyone have a good idea of when we are supposed to receive the results? Is it end of March, or early to mid-April?
Lanie Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I'm pretty sure its March 30th that everything is released. At least that's the day it's been released for the past few years. Anyone know any differently?
